Description If there's one thing I really admire - and envy - about Applejack, it's her musical talent. While it's not a prominent character trait of hers, and isn't really shown off in the same way as Sweetie Belle and Fluttershy, it still shows up from time to time.
Aside from her wonderful singing voice, throughout the show, she's been shown to be able to play the fiddle, the banjo, the acoustic guitar, and last but not least, the triangle. As Applejack would say, that's mighty impressive! I myself have a bit of a musical history. Not a professional career, and I was never as gifted as AJ (or any of the musician ponies for that matter), but a journey nonetheless. I'll tell you guys all about it in a journal so I don't further extend this tangent I'm already on. As you may have guessed, the banjo is my favorite of Applejack's repitoire. I wonder how she learned - maybe her mother could also play it, in addition to guitar, and taught her.
Believe it or not, through Applejack, I've grown to appreciate the banjo, an instrument I previously saw as, ahem, uncouth. It's not an instrument I really see myself playing - though I do fantasize about it from time to time, with Applejack being my teacher. (Of course, I'd imagine myself as a pony - there's no way a human could learn from hoof chords.) She should play it more often on the show.
This is, by far, my most rushed piece. Seems like I sink to a new low each time...
But anyway, the reason this was so rushed and looks rather rough compared to my other sketches is that today is Applejack Day on Equestria Daily, and, unfortunately, I procrastinated so much that I wasn't able to make anything really nice-looking for today. In fact, I went most of today thinking that I wasn't going to contribute any art for Applejack Day. But I later realized that this may be the last Applejack Day before the series finale (if the theory of season 9 being the last season ends up true, and the finale is around the same time of the year as that of this season.) As such, I felt terrible to not be using this opportunity to contribute to the day of my favorite country pony while the show's still on the air. So I just sketched this up, without using my usual light table or paper of choice (12-field animation paper). I emailed it to Equestria Daily after finishing it and submitting it to DA (so I could give them a link they can use as a source on the Open Art feature.) I'm writing this description after posting it. It might have been too late by the time I sent it, but we'll see. Doesn't hurt to try.
Credit to roxy-cream  for the vector I used as a reference for AJ holding her banjo:

And by that I mean I basically copied it (though not perfectly), and then added at least a few of my own twists (mainly on the banjo, in this case).
And this piece by zanclife  gave me an idea for the look of the fence, which, you may notice, is less complex than the fence for Sweet Apple Acres on the show. Nevertheless, like I said, I was short on time for this one.
