NOTE: PLEASE READ ==> Lol. I'm flattered, but I don't have the time, patience, or fortitude to look at your OCs and tell you how to fix them. xD Just read up on the tutorial and compare your OC with what we're saying.Full view to really be able to read it. VERY TEXT HEAVY.
A collaborative effort between myself and my good friend *Goldenkitsune-Queen
This here, boys and girls, is how to make a decent, My Little Pony OC, while keeping away from the things that make them total Marysues. We see far too many examples of just plain BAD characters, and so, we made this. Use the information here as a sort of guideline when creating your OC.
I know it's very text heavy, but the info is good and something to really keep in mind when making your OC.
I did most of the writing, with a few pointers and much help from *Goldenkitsune-Queen and a few others in the group I run.
*Goldenkitsune-Queen is responsible for the wonderful illustrations and, again, a big help on the text based content as well.

I HATE alicorns with ALL MY LIFE! Maybe you could say stuff like "don't overdue it with making your characters TOO friendly with the show's characters!" Like, additions to the CMC or are in a relationship with the characters. Those reeeally push my buttons.

Pegasi usually do not have pets. fluttershy and R. Dash being exceptions. Since they live in cloudsdale or on clouds.

did you read all of it? It SAYS that there's always an exception to the rules. PEgasi aren't NATURALLY inclined to have an affinity to animals like Earth ponies might. That doesn't mean they can't. Fluttershy can. Try actually reading ALL of it before jumping to conclusions about what it says.

then you would know it said that it's perfectly fine to have an exception to the rule. Hell the example pony is a pegasus and he grows grapes, connects with nature. We never said you couldn't. So if you read it all, then what's the problem?

but yes i agree 99% of it however in the case of trevor hes suposed to be marysue ish because hes a troll pony his entire existence is to be annoying and to break rules

There's a small problem with the no sad story thing though: What if the place they come from is a very sad, messed up place?

It's not that you CAN'T have a sad past, it's just that most people should really avoid it since they don't really know how to handle it very well with their character, and usually tend to overdo it and make that the MAIN thing about their character, making them sad and emo all the time, self loathing, self pitying, angry at the world, untrusting of others all the time, no one understands them or their inner pain or torment, blah blah blah. all that overused crap. Even characters with sad pasts can and have found happiness that they can hold onto. The sad character with a sad past is simply overdone. that's all. If you can do it right and add something unique about it, then props to you.

Actually, there is a way around the Alicorn rule. Artificial wings made with magic. My OC, Firefly. Her special talent is fire. Due to her getting tired of Celestia, she moved to the Griffin country which has yet to be named. Apperantly, there are alot of wildfires during the summer out there. It's like, Australia. Anyway, she stopped one, but got a bit burned in the process. Soooo, to make her life easier, she made herself a pair of wings. Yes, I see the logic gap there and I will try to fix it. Oh yeah, and then a griffin gang decided she was too powerfull and cut off her horn. THAT is how you get around the Alicorn rule.

Well... It's really not about how you CAN get around it... It's that you shouldn't try. I mean no offense at all, but that character sounds like a 100% certified Sue in my book.
don't take that badly, though. I mean, This whole tutorial isn't telling people what kind of characters they can or cannot make. You can do whatever you want. These are just guidelines that will ensure that you have a balanced character.

Hmm... for the most part I've never had problems avoiding these things EXCEPT *dun dun dun* depressing backstories. I like them. They're fun and they give you an excuse to torture your character a bit. BUT ALAS, it gets old fast.
