CHAPTER XXIX Mixed Feelings

493 Days A.A.D.

    Three days have passed since Beatrix retrieved her egg back from Flare. She’s awake, lying on the bed of her new actual room at the Próceres base.

    The base has gone mostly inactive from the constant losses and now Sarge gone as well, it’s very quiet.

    The remaining Próceres, Ryan and Eve, helped Beatrix to finally settle in. Arranging a special nest with elixir where she could take care of her egg in her room.

    This down time was also used to store the Elixir Beatrix has donated to Eve, work on the general maintenance of the base, make preparations for the next mission and most importantly to rest.

    Beatrix has been awake since the early morning, occasionally thinking about what Flare had said to her a few days ago; about Eve and the Proceres, every minute of thought making her doubt further. She's still trying to get used at the fact that she no longer needs to walk to and from the base everyday now that she’s moved in. However, she starts questioning if there is even any reason to stay at all.

    The Zoroark daydreams in her bed, waiting until later to meet with her team, that is until a Mienshao peeks around into her room.

    “Beatrix? Are you awake?” asks Eve at the entrance of the room, looking strangely numbed. “Oh yes, you are.”

    “Uh, what the, Eve...?” responds Beatrix, a bit puzzled at the way Eve is acting. “What’s wrong?”

    “Oh, yes, there's something I needed to tell you, an important taaask” says Eve with her voice tone revealing she’s not being her usual herself.

    “A bit too early but s-” before Beatrix could get off the bed and see what was wrong with Eve, she has jumped and thrown herself onto the Zoroark, sitting on her belly. Beatrix, forced to lay on bed with the Mienshao on top says, “Wha- Why are you on me!?”

    Beatrix felt threatened, thinking of what could be wrong; even considering the possibility of Eve being under some kind of mind control.

    “Beatrix...? Are you doing well?” Eve asks staring at Beatrix while rubbing her chest fur tenderly. “Uh... it's not easy to do Sarge and Jackie’s work at same time you knowww...”

    “Ehmm...? What have you been doing, Eve?” Beatrix knows something is wrong with her, but what worries her even more is the way she was starting to feel having Eve so up close and personal.

    “I fixed a thing... and I-I may have ate something I shouldn't have at the greenhouse, ehm... a disgusting Iapapa berry perhaps?”

    “Ow... that explains it, maybe we both should go back to sleep for a while more and-” Beatrix tries to gently push Eve off from her and the bed, but now Eve lies her body completely on her. Eve now with her head next to Beatrix’s starts to whisper questions.

    “Answer me... Are you doing well?” Eve starts pressing her body harder a couple of times on Beatrix.

    “I-I guess I’ve been recovering well... you?” Beatrix answers, she didn’t want to be rude to Eve now that she knows she is a little drugged. Beatrix is sure Eve wasn’t stupid enough to simply eat something that wasn’t not good for her. So she assumes Eve did so due to depression and she decides to play along.

    “Beatrix, sorry to bring up that day again now, but I’ve been curious about your Enermove” Eve asks, not answering Beatrix’s previous inquire of how she was feeling. The sudden serious question catches Beatrix off guard.

    “Oh? Yeah, I know it’s a bizarre one, but in the end it’s basically playing with illusions up to the eleven and-”

    “I-I managed to notice that you used it twice that day, without drinking any Elixir at all... Most Pokémon can only use it once before feeling too exhausted to do much of anything.”

    “I wish there is more I could say to that, but I guess I can use it twice before needing any Elixir thanks to some intense training.”

    “Only one I knew that could do that was Jackie. But I thought it was because his Enermove was not that powerful..”

    “Jackie too? Well, now you say that, I should add that my Enermove is not as reliable as it seems.”

    “Tell me more about it, Beatrix, feel free to tell me more about yourself too...?” asks Eve now deeply staring at her again. Beatrix remains uncomfortable, but feels like she shouldn’t stop playing along and that this could be her chance to get some information from Eve to confirm what Flare has told to her.

    “My Enermove works almost like a ghost-type move; I’m able to pass through solid matter. "It seems tricky, but it's just turning myself into an Illusion and then going into someone's mind."

    “How does that feel? What was it like being in Geo and Zhulyemos’s minds?”

    “Well... let’s start with Geo. When I used my Enermove on him, I entered into one of his memories and was able to learn some of his reasoning. From here I created an Illusion that takes over that memory, causing my foe a psychological trauma so strong that it forces them to faint.” Beatrix explains, feeling a bit weird since she hasn’t ever needed to explain how her Enermove works to anyone before. “I think I might have overdone it with Geo; you had already badly wounded him at that point. My intervention surely shocked him to the point where his brain couldn’t take anymore. What happened to Vic was way different than that though.”

    “Intriguing... but you did your job well. Why do you say your Enermove is not reliable?”

    “I was about to get to that; the problem of my Enermove is firstly that it’s really hard to maintain that form. If I don’t fly into someone’s mind in time, I waste the move. The second thing is that I can’t fully control someone’s thoughts, most of the time I encounter a random memory of my foe and have to work with it. But sometimes that memory is hard to tamper with, whatever I do to just might not be enough to get my foe to faint. Do you follow?”

    “I do, it’s really strange... What about Zhulyemos, then? Come to think of it, that Garchomp is the only Miserable that remains.”

    “He was... an unique case. I managed to take him down successfully, but when I got into his mind I didn’t witness a proper memory or a thought. I just found him in middle of a dark void, sitting down with his eyes closed. Almost like if he had nothing to care about in his life. It was enough with just attacking him in his mind to make him faint.”

    “That’s indeed something special, Beatrix. I mean, the power you have. Have you not thought in using your move on us? On me? I know you’d like to know more from me.” Eve gives Beatrix a strange look like if she’s suspecting of her, the Zoroark felt the Wide Lens Eve has on her eye point at her like a gun barrel.

    “I-I’ll be honest with you, the only reason I have not done that... is because my foes always know when I’ve done it, even if I just peek in. It’s not like I overwrite their memories permanently, I just give them a bad experience. But in the end they will know it was just me after the trauma. I use my Enermove to hurt people, and I don’t mean to harm any of you.”

    “Yes, I can trust you, Beatrix” Eve now closes her eye and falls asleep on top of her.

    Beatrix waited for a while like this until she is sure that Eve is asleep. For some reason, having Eve this close and having talked to her so personally has relieved a lot of her own worries. At this point, Beatrix didn’t even care not getting any information about Eve yet and just enjoyed the new feeling of security and drowsiness for now.

    The Zoroark places her left arm over the Mienshao’s back and falls asleep as well.

493 Days A.A.D.

09:30 am

    “I sure it's late to be asleep” speaks Ryan while watching the asleep couple closely.

    Eve opens her eyes slowly and is startled at the Aerodactyl watching her so closely. Making her to try to roll away from Beatrix abruptly. She wasn't expecting to still be in Beatrix’s embrace so this move causes both of them to fall from the bed.

    “Ugh sorry! Did I do wrong?” asks Ryan hopping back from them. “Didn't know you both sleep together now.”

    Beatrix and Eve stand up and look at each other with embarrassment. Beatrix eventually giggles while Eve coughs.

    “Ahem... R-ryan, you came here because you are ready for your next mission, right?” asks Eve in a shaky tone.

    Ryan nods and walks away from the room, heading towards the main control room.

    “Beatrix, I remember mentioning that I have a special task for you. It is really vital so please follow me.” Eve walks away. Beatrix follows her, sighing a bit, being partially glad that Eve is back to normal, but couldn't negate that it felt good having her share the bed.

    The three remaining Próceres are now in front of the big monitor. Eve proceeds to explain her plans and give some news.

    “Okay, attention. Today, Ryan and I will be heading to the Miserables’s ruins to loot as much Elixir as we can. The Enervemon presence has decreased in the zone almost entirely so this should be easy for just us to check and see what remains of the place.”

    “Are you sure you don't want me to go with you instead?” Beatrix winks at Eve jokingly, but Eve ignores the proposal and turns on the screen behind her.

    “On to the next thing... this is important for both of you to know, so pay extra attention. Since Sarge... the one who was assigned to work with the tech of the base is not with us anymore... I had to take care of this myself...”

    The mention of Sarge makes Beatrix and Ryan feel upset, though both of them tried their best to continuing paying attention as Eve continued.

    “I found out Sarge’s magnetism caused some issues with the way our security system worked here. Since he’s left us, I’ve noticed some modules started to work again. And here, I got this footage you should see.” explains Eve while she proceeds to press some buttons to get the footage to show on screen.

    Beatrix suddenly feels an icy chill crawl up her spine at seeing the image that has appeared on the screen. She felt like she would faint right there, but she did her best to act like nothing was wrong.

    “This is footage from when the security system had started recording again. This part was taken on the bottom floor.” says Eve as a Smeargle is shown walking around and waiting for the lift of the base to go up. Then he moves off screen. “The cameras aren’t fully working yet, but yesterday it recorded this.”

    “Leader, who do you think it would be?” asks Ryan, seemingly intrigued. Beatrix stays silent and crosses her arms, trying to hide the fact she’s shaking now.

    “Apparently a Smeargle, a sane one. He’s probably been here for a while, spying on us, stealing and maybe attempting sabotage. So, he’s just scum we must eradicate!” exclaims Eve before looking again at Beatrix. “Your task, while Ryan and I are away, could you go, find and capture him?”

Ooops, got the next one up sooner than expected. Hopefully the next will be done very soon also.

Beatrix rests in her room in the Proceres's base, until Eve arrives under a strange conditions and has a talk with her.

CHAPTER XXIX Mixed Feelings

493 Days A.A.D.

    The base has gone mostly inactive from the constant losses and now Sarge gone as well, it’s very quiet.

    The remaining Próceres, Ryan and Eve, helped Beatrix to finally settle in. Arranging a special nest with elixir where she could take care of her egg in her room.

    This down time was also used to store the Elixir Beatrix has donated to Eve, work on the general maintenance of the base, make preparations for the next mission and most importantly to rest.
