Ah, it was a while ago I worked with my old friend, Conky. I have a laptop I recently bought, with some issues to show the battery status and from there I got the idea to create a Conky for this simple task.This is what I came up with, with additional info about free space for drives. This conky is "easy" to customize and can be adapted for any wallpaper.
Conky is pure lua-code, no images used at all.
Features
* Show battery status
* Show free space on as many drive/folders you like. Simply add new drives/folders in the configuration section.
Installation
(1) Download Conky from here: drive.google.com/open?id=0B40O…
(2) Extract the Zip-file to your ~/.conky/ directory. If ~/.conky does not exist, create it.
(3) Edit "lua_widgets.lua" and change the parameters in the "USER CONFIGURATION" - section to fit your needs. However, default one should work.
(4) Start conky with:
conky -c ~/.conky/Conky_Revisited/start_conky_General
Note: There are other start_conky_* files, try one that works with you DE/WM.
