This is awesome!!! I'm trying to figure out how the heck realistic paintings work, so I've looked up like seven billion tutorials.... Yours looks really good, though! I like the variation in the colors you work with, too. Your character has a lot of expression. She looks so disdainful, glaring at me...

Thank you for making such a great skin tutorial! Faces are so hard........

THX a lot, as i know from other tutorials, mine will not look as perfect as the one from the tutorial^^ (not perfect = bad^^)
but you gave me the understanding of this, again THX very much

Whoot!!! Love it ! But didn't you had to practise a lot before you could draw something that beautiful??

This is wonderful. There is a shortage of tutorials out there for digital painting that keep things in a painterly look even while doing realism (you know... not airbrushing everything blended together). Thank you for this valuable resource!

Does the same concept work as well with tradital painting.. because either way I am hopeless at faces....???

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

xiaomeimei In reply to silent-bewildering [2006-06-16 02:24:39 +0000 UTC]

it'd work similarly well on oils and perhaps acrylic(i haven't used it in ages..i hate acrylics!)...if you want to do watercolour then it's not a good idea. for watercolour, draw the outline with pencil first then colour

I suggest, until you find your confidence, to use photo references when painting faces(or anything that you're not sure how to paint). Copying photographs is a great way to learn, too..

silent-bewildering In reply to xiaomeimei [2006-06-16 05:26:59 +0000 UTC]

Yeah that is true... I specialise in mainly landscapes with oils and acrylics... I have always stayed a fair distance from faces... because I just seem to munt them bug time... So I am going to give it an atempt in oils... Thanks for the advice... nice gallery btw... Much impressed in your tallent

xiaomeimei In reply to silent-bewildering [2006-06-16 14:31:58 +0000 UTC]

thanks!!! i looked at your gallery and you're not bad yourself either! though you do need to crop the photographs of your painting and photograph them in a brighter place..
and we all have our niches...i am not much good at landscapes either

silent-bewildering In reply to xiaomeimei [2006-06-18 11:50:27 +0000 UTC]

Thanks... Not yet sure how to do all that but I am a willing learner.... Hence the reason I wouldn't mind trying somehting new like faces.... Nect time I take a pic of my paintings I will take it out side.. I actually have three lanscapes on the go at the moment.... Will post them up once I have finished them.... Thankyou for your compliments...

Thank you Kay! The most in-depth and helpful tutorial I've ever come across.
Now I will ignore it and not draw anything.

Somehow I cannot even imagine drawing anything that even resembles that no matter how much time and practice I devote to it. In 23 years of my life I still draw stick figures. Most likely I'll just stick to photography and leave the painting up to experts like yourself.

sombersoul In reply to xiaomeimei [2006-06-15 15:42:12 +0000 UTC]

You are right, of course. But I imagine it nice to be able to put to paper the images inside your head for a change, instead of having to rely on objects that pass by your camera lens.

Hi, Kay. I got your art attack comment. To get your tutorial put in the AA learning center, you have to send it by email to Zombie. You can't put it in yourself -- he has to do it, and it takes him forever.

P.S.: Did you get the camera I sent? I put an awful lot of work into that and I never heard anything back from you about it.

Hey Chalres..that was an awfully prompt reply! thanks for the comment btw..and for the camera..I think I have relocated before the camera reached me ..I had to move because I didn't continue with the course and came back to sg .. sorry..I will have to check with the people to see if they still have it...

Sure don't ...would love to Painter 9 ...the digital artist oil are heavenly. But give these two a try both are free... each has merit and super paint brushes.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

xiaomeimei In reply to bleedingmirror [2006-06-12 03:20:50 +0000 UTC]

hey, thanks for the comment...the flow is set to 100% all the way, no specific brush size, just used [ and ] key to increase/decrease the brush size.
