Description April fools! Err, rather, announcing I was stopping all Starcraft content and posting this would have been my April Fools joke, if I had had any free time back in April, hah.

I've actually been a WC3 fan since the year it came out, and used to do a ton of Warcraft fan art in my younger days.
Of course there's no need for a Warcraft to Scale project in the same way there is for Starcraft because World of Warcraft already has everything in it. Starcraft's pretty unique position of having a rich lore and tons of awesome spaceships and aliens and things, but not having any semi-official size charts, the way franchises like Halo or Star Wars do, was sort of the opening for all my Starcraft work from the past few years. But I do appreciate Warcraft as well.

(I will say too that a lot of the World of Warcraft designs are sort of pale, anemic imitations of WC3's incredible art. Take the Crypt Fiend and Ghoul for example— in WC3, one of their trademark physical characteristics is their hunched backs. Both of them have shoulders and backs that are much higher than their heads. This permanently lowered head gives them a really inhuman, menacing look.

But then World of Warcraft tossed that out, so the Crypt Fiends just look kind of sad and skinny, while the Ghouls , who have also had their creepy hollow nasal cavities filled in, look kind of goofy. This is just my opinion, of course. (I didn't stay 100% faithful to the WC3 looks for this artwork either— My Hippogryph has the tail of a deer, and my Wind Rider is wearing much less clothing. 'Cuz it's cool.))

This was a surprising amount of fun to do. Obviously the drawings are less detailed than some of my Starcraft art (though the poses are more dynamic!), but it was so much fun that I could maybe be persuaded to do a lot more of them.

Omg I agree 1,000% - W3 wqs far more rich and fascinating than WoW, which seems to be marketed to theblowest common denominator.

Awesome work, by the way!

Thanks! Glad you like it.

I do have to stop myself from being too critical of WoW. A lot of my love for WC3 is definitely nostalgia goggles. Like, there's nothing particularly exceptional about, say, this . I do think they gave a lot of the designs more dynamic poses and angles so that they would look good from a zoomed-out RTS view, and then dropped a bunch of that stuff once you could actually see everyone from the front (crawling ghouls look good and different from above, but might be annoying if you have to keep looking at the floor to fight them in WoW). I dunno.

Anyway, I have another batch of units coming soon!

Idk, to be honest I still lile the old Jaina model in a few ways but part of that is the weird proportions WoW characters have...but yeah, a lot of it could be nostalgia.

Dude if you have morr, I will so be watching out for that. I only saw your Starcraft stuff briefly and it's incredible.

I agree, the wc3 Ghoul was more skeletal and the Crypt Fiend was more decomposed... They looked more like rotten corpses walking... The WoW ghoul looks like a Monkey zombie, it's just stupid to me
PS: I don't know if a ghoul is really so small.

I would say you're pretty on point with the small size, ghouls are very small, just deformed by undead magics to the point where things like their claws and arms are enlarged and sharp.

Yeah, I'll make it bigger if/when I do more of these. Already after posting I remembered those claws on their hands should be hefty enough to chop down trees.

Agreed, I went to Warcraft 3, and realized the ghouls seemed extremely different.  Among other things, I wonder why they ditched the crawling, Gollum-like movement.  Making them so animalistic is what made them dissimilar from zombies.  They went back in that direction with the gheists in Wrath of the Lich King.

I also absolutely love the new nerubian models we got.  They look like they have a human wearing a giant spider head for a helm, a face within a face@

Ooh, have a link to a picture of those Nerubians? I'm not up to date on WoW.

I'm having trouble finding a screen shot of a close-up on a nerubian face.  I'll just give you the Wowpedia page of Kilix the Unraveler.  It has an okay view of the entire model in game, as well as art that shows what Blizzard is going for:  wow.gamepedia.com/Kilix_the_Un…
