Description
Reconstruction of tyrannosaurid Tyrannosaurus rex with speculative partial plumage. Maastrichtian of the North American West.
This is my first version of Tyrannosaurus rex with some filamentous integument in this year. Actually, this is a remake of an old work www.deviantart.com/xiphactinus… Therefore, the number of protofeathers generally remained the same except the thigh. In general, in this work I wanted to show my progress in the drawing of covers and anatomy. This particular specimen is stretched standing on one leg. It may seem strange, but I decided to choose this position, because why not?
This is one of the many planned reconstructions of tyrannosaurids with protofeathers. Before you will criticize my plans and this work in particular, I will say that I am aware of the conclusions in the paper Bell et al 2017. The authors themselves do not exclude the presence of minimal filamentous covers, but they estimated the probability of this less than 3 %. However, these conclusions are based on the mutual exclusion of reptilian scales and protofeathers. In my opinion, there are still many questions waiting for an answer. If these very small scale-like structures are really scales, isn't this a secondary transformation of feathers? Can this be called scales at all? Time will give answers, I think. Therefore, this particular version, in my opinion, remains relevant. I have also planned more feathered versions, but there covers will be more a matter of aesthetics than science. We see. in any case, among my works you can found completely featherless tyrannosaurs.
Black ink pen, 2018.

I love the facial integument detail you put into this drawing. It gives it a very detailed feel to it.

Maybe because their legs are extremely similar. Сhicken is also a theropod anyway.

Well, from my experience of visiting DeviantArt, there's still a lot of recent works here with some plumage.

From the new evidence, we know that the hips of Tyrannosaurus rex most likely had no feathers but most of the body, arms and head would have had them.
A bit like this pic I made a few months ago.

You're right. In fact, the minimal plumage could be more reliable. But this is a remake of one of my old works, so I left the overall same distribution of covers, even if slightly changed it there and there.

I'm glad some people still agree with feathered rexes these days.

I'm just open to more than one interpretation in this matter. In any case, I already have scaly Tyrannosaurus and they will be in the future, as well as versions with some number of feathers.

Only those who respect the animals for the amazing creatures they were, do. The same people also wish to learn all that they can about these creatures.
Those who don't are usually either on the bench with this, or they just prefer it to look like their old movie monster that rampages around and kills everything that it sees because it's some mindless monster.
