Description
New work. The canonical Triassic theropod Coelophysis bauri rests under a dry tree trunk.
In this drawing, I tried to depict a dinosaur partially in the shadow of a large object (in this case, a dead trunk), and partially in the light. The result was quite good, despite some disadvantages. This was a useful experiment for me. I hope that I will continue to include more interesting solutions with light and shadow in my work.
The trunk under which the Coelophysis sits belongs to a coniferous tree. Hundreds of fossilized trunks of similar trees were found in Petrified forest national park in Arizona. The sediments with trunks belong to the Chinle formation, where a variety of fauna is known, including Coelophysis. The dinosaur itself is mostly covered with filaments, as in my previous reconstructions.
Black ballpoint and gel ink pens, 2020.
