Work of high art level! As always at you, Simone. It is a lot of details. Excellent composition, modeling and lighting.

It was indeed a huge work to create this one! At first there was also a ship on the background but I didn't like it and deleted it.
Thank you Alexey!

nice digital painted landscape rendering here...it looks like you have a small cave hole in the left side of the middle ground mountain...or something...

Thank you very much!
There isn't a cave in the mountain. I cannot see?

crag-dolomite In reply to xmas-kitty [2013-03-30 18:57:52 +0000 UTC]

no, but it's an optical illusion...much like looking at an isometric corner can sometimes look like an outside corner and then an inside corner...that's what Escher was all about...cheers

Same thing like the bumps on the wall on this image: [link]
There is a comment "the bumps are reversed" you may read.
But they are not!
Is there a recipe for avoidance of this illusions?

yes, that was a good example...and nice work by the way
another way to look at is a map with Hill shading, turn the map upside down and the hills look like valleys
or as in my original comment, the side of a mountain can look like the inside of a cave
using Normal maps, may be one way to get around the anomaly. You are a nice digital artist by the way...

Thanks!
Do you know the animations of hollow masks? Example: [link]
(reminds a little bit on your avatar)
The human brain is fixated on faces and will not accept a concave human face.

yes, that is correct, and interesting...and it all ties in...it can depend on where the shadow is generated by the light. on the bottom "ledge" of a recess, or top ledge of a protrusion from an overhead light...and that also is related to how software buttons look raised or depressed - by switching the top/left highlight with the bottom/right shadow etc...interesting discussion friend.
my avatar was actually a revolving Bryce Lattice with a height map of my face. it only had to revolve 180° before the back face started to reveal...
