This is a pattern that I spent countless hours perfecting because I didn't care for any of the ones I could find.
I originally designed it to be rather large but i'm sure the pattern will work for any size you please as long as you keep the proportions in check.
Although it may seem intimidating at first for newer plushie makers these types of plushies are actually very simple to make and a great project for beginners.
NOTE: this pattern does not contain seam allowance so you will have to remember to add it.
On the heads; the darts are not mandatory but I recommend them greatly as they make the head much more round.
The blue area on the body is a optional stallion curve for those who prefer a less rounded rump and a more masculine appearance.
I included wings but not a horn pattern because all the horn is, is two long triangles. I recommend this tutorial beezee-art.deviantart.com/art/…
if you're going for a spiral look.
What I plan to do for the wings is to stuff the feather part normally on wing 1 but the center softer, than sew wing 2 on top of that and lightly stuff. I have not made a actually plush with this yet but I plan on it soon so I will post pictures than.
On the stallion head piece, you have the choice of either cutting it up into the three sections or keeping it all as one, the difference between them is that the sectioned one produces a less rounded and more defined stallion snout. The first and biggest section of the piece goes from the back of the head to the top and beginning of the nose. the second piece starts from the top of the nose to the beginning of the chin. the last trapezoid piece is the chin piece and starts from the beginning of the chin and goes all the way to the neck.
Tutorial for plush:
craftside.typepad.com/craftsid…
For those of you who don't know how to sew darts: tinyurl.com/m2fyavn This is all it takes.
This pattern is completely free to use from the kindness of my heart. If you do happen to use my pattern I beg of you to send me pictures and links so I can see your amazing, beautiful, lovely, ponytastic creations. if you have any questions feel free to ask.
EDIT
added part names so the tutorial is easier.
EDIT 2
cleaned up pattern a bit.
EDIT 3
I made the head size smaller and not so gargantuan. Hopefully this will make the plush look more like the actual mlp style. This and other changes and tweaks should probably come as I actually make a plush with this.
EDIT 4
added new stallion head center piece.
EDIT 5
made the legs thicker, added a chest curve in the front, and added a eye to the mare

Make sure you put seam allowance it makes it a million times easier to just follow a line inside of just sewing on the edges.
Take your time when stuffing slowly working from corner to corner.
Have fun and take it slow dont rush to get it all done if you dont have to.

gulphcoast.deviantart.com/art/… Here is my first attempt. I really like the pattern for the body, and I will definitely separate out the stallion head center pieces next time. I find that the nose isn't defined enough if you leave it as one piece, like I did. I also might make the head a little bit smaller.

I don't understand the stallion center head. Does the bottom part of this peice (the part that is facing down on your pattern page) go toward the back of the head, or under the chin? Thanks so much for posting this pattern, it's just what I was looking for, as I need a boy pony, too!

The bottom triangle is the under part of his chin.

Thanks, I see now that I've assembled it. I definitely see the advantage of separating out the stallion head center into 3 parts. I didn't do it this time, but I probably will for the next one. Do you have a picture of the finished stallion head for reference? I am working on the ears now, and I was wondering how you attached them. The tutorial cuts a hole for the ears after everything is done. I would prefer not to do this. Any suggestions?

I only used the tutorial as a basic outline, I might make one myself some day...But for the ears I stuffed mine because I liked the look and sewed them completely around on both sides so they didnt flop over. If your planning on not stuffing them I would just sew through both sides and onto the head.
And it may be a little more difficult if you stuff your ears, but I would slightly curve the ear on the head, like in stead of positioning it straight on the head maybe make the middle of the ear farther back and the sides forward.
Thanks and stay awesome.

ummm......what do we do with the darts exactly?

xMischief In reply to bornthiswayfox [2013-08-24 18:01:28 +0000 UTC]
you mark them on the wrong side of the fabric and than fold the piece in the middle of the triangle and sew down the half of the triangle, when you unfold you should have a little crease on the right side of the fabric.
If you still don't understand google has plenty of tutorials.

Hey!
Do you have some photos of the finished head (like pattern tests) - I'm interested in the final shape (so eyes etc. wouldn't matter).
Thanks for your work!

I only have the stallion head done so if that's what you want to see than sure. I probably wont be making the mare head because I never draw mares and all my pony oc's are male.

Question about the darts, though--do I cut _anything_ on them at all and sew them to the middle piece? I'm still confused about how to work with them....
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
xMischief In reply to Darkphoenix909 [2013-08-20 16:18:34 +0000 UTC]
No you don't cut out the triangle shape you just fold it over and sew it down the side. You'll know when you've done it right because the piece will curve and be a half ball shape.
I'm sure there are plenty of tutorials and what not on Google and DA that can explain it much better if you're still having problems.

this wasn't designed to be a filly but I'm sure you could make it look more filly-ish if you messed around with its design.
but if I would use this pattern cavelupa.deviantart.com/art/Up… , it looks very filly like to me.
