This is a pattern that I spent countless hours perfecting because I didn't care for any of the ones I could find.
I originally designed it to be rather large but i'm sure the pattern will work for any size you please as long as you keep the proportions in check.
Although it may seem intimidating at first for newer plushie makers these types of plushies are actually very simple to make and a great project for beginners.
NOTE: this pattern does not contain seam allowance so you will have to remember to add it.

On the heads; the darts are not mandatory but I recommend them greatly as they make the head much more round.

The blue area on the body is a optional stallion curve for those who prefer a less rounded rump and a more masculine appearance.

I included wings but not a horn pattern because all the horn is, is two long triangles. I recommend this tutorial beezee-art.deviantart.com/art/…
if you're going for a spiral look.

What I plan to do for the wings is to stuff the feather part normally on wing 1 but the center softer, than sew wing 2 on top of that and lightly stuff. I have not made a actually plush with this yet but I plan on it soon so I will post pictures than.

On the stallion head piece, you have the choice of either cutting it up into the three sections or keeping it all as one, the difference between them is that the sectioned one produces a less rounded and more defined stallion snout. The first and biggest section of the piece goes from the back of the head to the top and beginning of the nose. the second piece starts from the top of the nose to the beginning of the chin. the last trapezoid piece is the chin piece and starts from the beginning of the chin and goes all the way to the neck.

Tutorial for plush:
craftside.typepad.com/craftsid…

For those of you who don't know how to sew darts: tinyurl.com/m2fyavn This is all it takes.

This pattern is completely free to use from the kindness of my heart. If you do happen to use my pattern I beg of you to send me pictures and links so I can see your amazing, beautiful, lovely, ponytastic creations. if you have any questions feel free to ask.

EDIT
added part names so the tutorial is easier.
EDIT 2
cleaned up pattern a bit.
EDIT 3
I made the head size smaller and not so gargantuan. Hopefully this will make the plush look more like the actual mlp style. This and other changes and tweaks should probably come as I actually make a plush with this.
EDIT 4
added new stallion head center piece.
EDIT 5
made the legs thicker, added a chest curve in the front, and added a eye to the mare

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you! I completely agree with you that the other patterns are awful, so thank you so much for making this.

One more thing, the only problem I have with this is that I know absolutely nothing about sewing! Luckily, I have a whole summer to learn and make somehing using your awesome pattern!

I just have a quick question I couldn't find in the tutorial since it links it to a retro deer :<

What are the triangular cut outs in the heads? The ones situated besides where the ear goes? Hoe do those get sewn?

The darts I mean >___<

You just fold the fabric over and sew it, make sure to back stitch at the beginning and end. I'm sure you could find lots of tutorials through Google. ^^

You don't actually cut the triangle out, you fold that part over it's self and sew it.

Wow so amazing thanks!!! But my printer has a problem it's printing the pattern in a tiny corner. So I'm going to print it on an overhead sheet. Then post paper on the wall and trace. Will that work?

xMischief In reply to pepper246 [2013-06-22 18:04:25 +0000 UTC]

That sounds like it would work fine, but what I do is use photoshop and zoom in and trace along the screen marking where it ends on the screen than moving the picture down.

Nice pattern that I can't wait to try, any tips for making patterns?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

xMischief In reply to ThatBlokeFox [2013-06-13 22:17:31 +0000 UTC]

if you're not a great artist in the first place you could get a good side view of whatever you're making a pattern of and try to copy that the best you could.
I usually trace the patterns I make off my computer with paper, than copy and trace that onto cardboard. Which makes it a million times easier to trace onto fabric.
Thanks and I cant wait to see your creation if you do try it. ^^

Ha ^^ I do all my sewing by hand and only use my embroidery machine for eyes and marks. I find hand sewing much more relaxing than using a machine.
