Description
Well, boxmaking is interesting, but I don't know if it's going to be a thing of mine. I've had more fun with less difficulty and better results, but I suppose the sexy, ol' blue box came out all right. I've certainly learned that I don't like oak. Ick, it's just so fuzzy and big grained. Won't take a good sanding either, but it does soak up dye and oil like a champion; fair's fair.Certainly my paneling needs some working on, I have some definite plans concerning the paneling on my Mark II TARDIS box, in progress now. But the whole thing did give me an unprecedented amount of work with hand tools, between dozuki saws and chisels and scissors and even a brief go with a spokeshave, although that didn't really work out.
External dimensions of the box are about 11x11x25 cm; interior dimensions, well, you all know the line.
This piece was done for , and it's been sized to carry his Doctor Whooves and Derpy figurines, with the shelf up top to keep their tails and wings. If you want to see more of it, I'd love for you to check out a work in progress gallery and a larger expanded gallery offsite.
Doctor Who belongs to BBC.

I think it'd have to be the Mark III at least, the current one is already promised away. Plus I think I'd do ashwood; this oak is really getting on my nerves.

Haha, well I think the ash will have a large enough grain to make the same effect, that is to show up really easily beneath the color, of not then I can always make a mark iv.

Looks nice. Can it fit six people in it and then travel through time and space?

Oh my...
This... this... is beautiful
I love that the oak makes it look a bit weathered where parts of the wood still show through the dye.
/continues to gaze at the beauty...

Oh, weathering it was one of my favorite parts. Some of it was done with steel wool, or with off-colored paint and a bit was done by smearing glue over some parts before dying and then sanding it off. Lukjad wanted oak to show off the wood's grain under the color, so props to him on that bit.
