Description Journal CSS Editor is, surprisingly, an editor for Journal CSS. It lets you edit the CSS for your deviantART journal in the comfort of your own browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Opera confirmed to work), with dynamic preview and the ability to import CSS/content from deviantART. Both "classic" v5/6 CSS and new, gruze-style Journal CSS are supported.

The download link on your left will give you a slightly crippled (and probably out-of-date) but offline-usable version of the editor.

The full editor is available at JCE.FIVEBYFIVE.BE .

Full source code, including back-end stuff.

Report any and all bugs, preferably via GitHub , but you can also reach me by note or by e-mail at cssedit@fivebyfive.be .

Hey i'm just wondering every time I try to add a thumbnail to the description how come the picture shows up as some girl?

xork In reply to sjham61 [2012-06-22 18:48:19 +0000 UTC]

Because it always uses the same thumbnails, no matter which ones you try to use. I don't quite remember why it does that, but I'm sure I had a good reason.

do you plan to update this to support CSS3 or whatever number we're on now? I do love this editor makes it much easier to code.

Thanks a bunch for making it!

I have no plans for updates in the immediate future. There are things I would like to fix, but I'm afraid work and other projects take precedence.

this is just FANTASTIC, ive been on the net looking for some kind of program, which could do the css code like the devientart css code for the journal, and not found a thing, this is a great bit of kit, very good, i would of paid money for this, its well worth getting if you want to change the look of your journal, add pics, ans stuff, just go on the site look for someone great looking journal, put there name in and wow you can mess about with the look add own pics, then just copy the code to your journal, but all you know all that. this is just fantastic. thanks, ive downloaded the offline version too, in case this gets taken off, omg i hope not. ACE mate !!!!

I didn't see where to make bug reports, so I'll post mine here (I hope this is okay).

Your system is a bit more permissive than deviantART's. In particular, your system accepts:

.one, .two
{
Β Β color: red;
}

While dA gives this error:

CSS Error:
Only descendant and class selectors are allowed (token: .one, .two)

and requires it to be written:

.one
{
Β Β color: red;
}
.two
{
Β Β color: red;
}

In addition, your system accepts the

tag, while deviantART does not. This probably also applies to some similar tags, but I can't test it (no subscription).

In fact, due to lack of subscription, I can't verify if dA still has these flaws, but it did as of May 7, 2008.

I just tried using this today, and it was really excellent -- until I tried inputing the codes into my journal boxes. Then it went all funky, and came up with a different-looking journal editor with ARRAY at the top. I assumed that meant I'd screwed something up, but I didn't put the CSS in wrong or anything. I tried several times, but it just quit on me and used my old, cruddy CSS.

Can you tell me what's going on?

This is the journal I made --> [link]

I'll need to see the CSS that failed. Post it to pastebin and give me the link, and I'll take a look at it.

Change background-image: url(none); to background-image: none; in .journalbox .journaltext .content.

Success! Thank you so much for your help, I probably wouldn't have noticed that xD

I'll definitely be using your app any time I want to update my CSS It's very well designed, and I think it should be a standard feature of DA.
