Description
I once vowed that I would never paint water again, and in retrospect that was probably a smart thing to vow hahaButyeah; new(ish) OC, her name is Lili, and she lives in a world that's absolutely consumed by ocean; where she rides around on a genetically engineered mutant seal. It's a little universe that I've been drawing out in my head for a while and it's lots of fun.
I've always envied people with stories, plans, universes and whatnot, and I've only recently hopped on that bandwagon (:
So; I guess expect to see more of her soon? I guess I'll well and truly be shattering that old vow I made, worlds made out of oceans tend to include a lot of water, and with the amount I struggled here, god knows I need to practice it haha.

wooooow this is impressive *u* I love the realistic but painted feeling and her face expression! The focus is automatically set on her eyes and omg just everything looks so cool! I love the way you've painted everything, especially the water! I always find it difficult to draw water.

I find it difficult too, but I guess like everything we've just gotta practice it more haha?
Thanks so much!

This is definitely one of your strongest pieces to date dude in terms of the render it's really well done and The colors are really nice. There's a few issues I can see right now, but it's 4am and I'm tired so I won't give you a critique not, but if you want one I'll give you a critique on this one.

Thankss, I worked on it progressively in bits and pieces, so I realize that there are probably issues and inconsistencies; but if you're up for a critique then sure, critique away (:

Ok, got kind of busy but I have a few minutes to go over this now. Starting with her ear, the construction of it isn't very realistic as your ear seems to spiral straight into the canal whereas, as best I can explain, ears are more-so over lapping shapes that spiral downward. Also the ear should be pulled back and up more, tilting back slightly, right now it feels like it's growing right from her cheek. I was going to critique the individual components of her face from here but then I realized it was just the left side of her face that's warped in a weird way, The right side of her face is really accurate considering her position. So basically the left side of her face needs to be pulled back and up some. Her hair is completely unaffected by reality in this piece by the way, her hair looks very dry and on top of that it appears to be unaffected by gravity which would have been fine if it were constrained to her head from being wet by the water. Her jacket appears to be made of leather, but according to the reflectivity of the water around her it's not very convincing, there's a very bright light shining on her from somewhere (I'm assuming the moon) and if that's the case the leather would also be reflecting more light than it is. The buoyancy of here body in the water doesn't appear very convincing to me as well considering she appears to be floating and not swimming, the only parts of her that should be sticking out of the water honestly are her breasts and face just passed her ears. I would suggest getting better references for your lighting and how the body (both male and female if the stories gonna have both) works when at rest and active in water. Water is a crazy reflective surface that's constantly warping and refracting light in interesting ways. Your anatomies not bad by any means you just have to get better references for these more elaborate poses, and don't forget to flip your images to find any glaring issues that you won't see after working on a piece for hours and you should also work on the piece while it's flipped to make sure it works no matter which way you view it. you're a powerful renderer dude, but now you need a better focus on what you're rendering. Like I said before this is an excellent piece, but I know you can do better! Hope this was helpful.

Looking back, it seems that every picture I've done with water, I've made the same vow haha, I like water, but I just haven't quite figured out an efficient method for painting it yet;
Andyesss, I'm looking for a way to recycle that little Keon jelly-thing in here, though if not him, there will most definitely be other jelly's somewhere;;;
Thanks floona!

Oooh, I can't wait to read and see more about your project. The water around Lili looks a little bit, I dunno, "plastic" I guess because it doesn't have a whole lot of color variation and ripples, but it also has a beautiful reflective quality to it that I like. Nice work!

I can see what you mean by plastic-y; although I'm honestly not too sure how to remedy it haha. I guess it's something I'll have to figure out as a go along (:
Anywayss yes, thank yoU!
