Description
Breed: Nightwing (can assume the form of a Seawing by placing the enchanted scrap of scroll into his pendant).
Sex: Male
Age: Young adult
Distinct Features: Particularly long spikes on neck and back.
Accessories: Chain necklace and pendant that used to contain a functioning compass, but was hollowed out in order to hold the glass vial containing the scrap of enchanted scroll.

Personality: The same as my main fursona, Vex, which can be found in the description of his character sheet fav.me/dbv5tlh .
History: Phantom’s story began one day in the Kingdom of the Sea, when a pair of Nightwings were found on the beach by a troop of Queen Coral’s guards. The male put up a fight to protect his mate and had to be killed, but the guards managed to subdue the female and take her back to the nightmarish Seawing prison. She would not reveal her name, but instead said that she was a traitor to the crown, having fled the Night Kingdom without the permission of her queen, and that the Nightwings would not give anything to get her back. Coral believed that the nameless Nightwing was lying, and planned to ransom her in exchange for the Nightwings help in winning the war. That plan came crashing down a few days later, when the guards came to check on the nameless Nightwing and found her curled up in her cell, dead. Confused, the guards went to investigate, and, much to their amazement, found a jet-black egg held in the curve of the deceased Nightwing’s belly. Unbeknownst to the Seawings, the pair of Nightwings had fled their hellish kingdom to ensure that their dragonet would survive, but the female’s poor health coupled with the strain of the journey and the stress of her imprisonment meant she only had enough strength left to lay her egg before dying. Now Queen Coral was formulating a new plan. A tiny, impressionable Nightwing dragonet with the power of telepathy and foresight could be the perfect weapon in the war. A special incubation cell was made for the egg, with guards set to watch over it day and night. One of these guards was Current, a pale purple Seawing who had lost her mate to the war and had her own egg incubating at home. She worried for the unhatched Nightwing, but knew there was nothing she could do for it. Time passed, and one day a new prisoner was brought to the Seawing palace. He was a Skywing by the name of Soar, and right away Current sensed something was off about him. He didn’t have the quiet, smoldering rage of the other Skywings brought to their prison, and instead seemed frantic, panicked, and, in all honesty, pretty pathetic. He begged to be released, insisting Scarlet wouldn’t trade anything for his return, but once again the queen refused to listen. So instead he turned his attention to the guards. He pulled Current aside, saying that he had incredible powers, powers to change shape and form, and that he would share them with her if she would help him escape. Now believing the hysterical Skywing must be totally out of his mind, Current refused his request and moved on. Less than a day later two dragonets were slowly pushing their way into the world. One was a Nightwing held in a dark cell all alone, and another a Seawing born into their mother’s arms. Current’s dragonet was born small and sickly, with barely the strength to open its eyes, and died only a few hours after hatching. Current was heartbroken, now with no mate and no dragonet, she had never felt so alone. Meanwhile the Nightwing dragonet was lively and rambunctious, crying out from his cell for parents who would never come. Coral ordered him to be left in isolation until she could determine who he should be allowed to bond with in order to make him more pliable and obedient. Current’s concern for the tiny creature grew .What would Coral do to him? Hand him over to Blister? Brainwash him to be nothing more than a mindless tool at her disposal? And what if he didn’t comply? What if after all her efforts the Nightwing grew defiant and didn’t follow her orders? What would the queen do then? Current knew as well as anyone that Coral had a dark side. She had seen what the queen did to guards that failed to protect her precious eggs. But what could Current do? She had no power to stop her. Unless… Current remembered the Skywing and the powers he had claimed to have. She knew it was crazy, but she had to try. She wrapped her dragonet’s body in a blanket and tucked it into a leather satchel slung across her shoulders. She went to the prison, talking another guard who she knew well into leaving so that she could be alone with the prisoners. She went to Soar, now huddled pitifully in the back of his cell, and agreed to release him if he could help her. The Skywing swore that he would, but to make sure he wouldn’t go back on his word she chained his ankles and mouth so that he wouldn’t be able to escape. The two of them flew to the beach, where Soar had left his scroll in the hollow of tree. He wrote two spells for Current, and once she made sure they would work, she held true to her word and released him. She went back to the prison with the scraps of paper held in a tiny glass vial. There she removed them, placing one down the dead Seawing dragonet’s throat and another rolled tightly into a metal locket, which she secured around the Nightwing dragonet’s neck. The spells worked as intended, making the deceased Seawing take on the appearance of the Nightwing dragonet, and the Nightwing dragonet take on the appearance of the Seawing. Current left the disguised body of her dragonet in the cell, and took the Nightwing dragonet back to her home, tucked safely away in her satchel. When the guards returned they found what they believed to be the body of the Nightwing dragonet curled up peacefully in the middle of its cell, seemingly having died in its sleep. The other guards, though not sure what had really happened, agreed to back up Current’s story that Soar had used the distraction of the dragonet’s death to escape. Coral believed this, and was too enraged by the loss of the dragonet to worry about punishing them. Meanwhile the real Nightwing was living happily with his new mother, under the guise of a normal Seawing dragonet. Current named him Phantom, which she said was in reference to a black phantom tetra (a type of freshwater fish), but in reality she had wanted him to have a name that she felt could fit a Nightwing. Phantom quickly outgrew his originally locket, and so he made himself a new one by hollowing out the inside of a compass so that it could hold the glass vial containing the Seawing spell. Although Phantom and his adoptive mother have a close relationship, the young Nightwing never feels at home in the sea. He doesn’t like spending long periods underwater, where he can’t fly or hear or speak or smell, so the two of them spend as much time as possible in the Summer Palace. Still, Phantom very often feels out of place. Being in a body that is not his own makes him uncomfortable, and he will sometimes sneak away to one of the many caves along the shore to remove the spell and be in his true form, if only for a few minutes.
Well, it's official, I finally made a WoF dragonsona. I've had the idea for this character for awhile, but just hadn't gotten around to making a ref sheet for him.
No critique desired. Please respect that.
Wings of Fire belongs to Tui T. Sutherland
Seawing base made by starryprinxe . Original art by Joy Ang.
The ocean backdrop is from the cover of Wings of Fire: The Lost Heir and does NOT belong to me.
The rest of the art and the character are copyright © HawkGryph, and you are not permitted to steal, trace, copy, reference, or otherwise redistribute them in any way. I also do not want to see this posted on RP sites, Facebook, YouTube, etc. That's still art theft.

That's because Chameleon gave the spell to his mother (as Soar). And thanks.
