New design for Zak Here's the old one fav.me/d5iryiv I thought it looked to cartoony for such a dark story, but I might use the original design for another OC sometime

Okay, so like I said on the last version, this is Zak's third (and hopefully final) reincarnation. For those of you who don't know, the original Zak was a black and white cat and the second was a pale sandy-brown fox. After that I posted the wolf version with his original design, and now, a little more than a month later, I've decided to go with a more natural look. But the character and storyline are the same I find it kind of funny that this design sort of resembles one of his original forms. Truth be told, this is actually Zak's fourth reincarnation, because to start with I did have a wolf character whose story sort got leaked into this one. But he had a different name and never even made it onto DA. Anyway, I digress. Now let's move on to the comment copied from the original design.

Well, I know I have way too many stories already (for those counting, there's Creed of the Forgotten, Echoes of the Fallen, and Sinner's Dawn ) but here's yet another one. This might have actually bumped CotF off the top spot, since I have fallen head over heels in love with it over the time that I've spent working on it. And no, I haven't come up with a title yet (don't suggest anything, I like coming up with them myself). This is also one of my darker stories, dealing with very mature (as in, don't let it anywhere near little kids) themes and emotional issues. It also has what I believe to be my most bad-ass villain

No critique desired. Please respect that.

Ooooh! Even better, a graphic novel, will have to keep an eye out for when you do pull it out of your head and put it down on paper. I love wolves, they're just one of my favourite animals hehe.

Not a problem Well, gray wolves are my favorite animal, but a close second is the red-tailed hawk. I also love domestic cats, coyotes, foxes, ravens, jays, domestic dogs, and just about any other kind of bird, canine, or feline. I love most animals, in case you can't tell The only species I just can't stand is the...cockroach *shivers*

EEEPP!! Cockroachs! I cant stand them hehe.
Oooh gray wolves, I also love red timbre wolves, they're so noble and strong. And snap, I love nearly all the same as you, but my close secnd is tigers, I love how they can be so solitary but protect their own. Oh have you done pictures of hawks? I'd love to see them XD

Tigers are awesome I read in this little pamphlet wildlife book (you know, the kind you can order in bits and pieces?) that if a female with cubs comes upon a male eating a kill, he'll actually move aside for them to eat. May or may not be true, but I thought that was really cool

I don't have a lot of bird art yet, but I do have one hawk OC on DA. This is my pied (partial albino) red-tail character, Ghost [link]

Oh just checked out your falcon OC, seriously awesome, it looks fierce yet so serene and you got the anatomy so right. Bonus points for you!

I think that male tigers must know that a female that close to their territory is likely to have mothered their cubs. And thanks drawing birds has always come so easy to me, while I've had to struggle and struggle to draw wolves

Challenge accepted

1. I don't give out my real name on the internet you can just call me Vex.

2. I know this is a clichΓ© answer, but I've been drawing my whole life I started getting serious about it about eight years ago, and started on digital art about four or five years ago.

3. I'm from the USA but I won't say where

4. My favorite things to draw are wolves, coyotes, cats, foxes (just because they seem to be the canine that's easiest for me to draw), and birds of prey

5. Nope

1.Oh, I have too many to name I have drawn so many pictures where I just sit back and go "WTF was I thinking?!" but as far as DA goes, this piece of fan art from 2010 is probably the worst [link] *shivers*

2.Hmm…my most embarrassing moment had to have been when my teacher hailed me during gym class, pulled me really close, and said β€œYour fly is undone.” I….swear…I…almost…died…

3.Chicken all the way More than a couple of pieces of bacon makes me sick to my stomach. Plus I don't like pig all that much anyway

4.By these animals, I'm guessing you mean wolves like in the drawing? Yes, I have. I've even petted full-grown wolves and had a wolf pup lick me in the face If you mean chickens or pigs, like the above question, I've seen them up close as well. I've only seen pigs a handful of times, but I used to have chickens as pets.

Aw, but the UK is just full of win I’ve always wanted to go. I’m happy here, though, because America has such a diversity of landscapes that you can see anything from deserts, to snowy mountains, to beaches, big cities, and thick forests without ever leaving the country

Hehe class, that made me giggle, but at least your teacher told you rather than letting you go around running for all to see lol.
Mmmmmm chicken!! X) I specially love spicy chicken nomnom.
You saw wolves!? You got to pet them? I so envy you, I'd love to do that, hence another reason I want to go to America. You're wildlife is so much more varied than ours, and I'd love to travel across the states and visit each region. In Wales its just hills and water hehehe
You ready for more questions or do you want to take a turn?

2. Never to stick your finger in a hermit crab's claw don't ask...just...don't ask.

3. A few times when I was little. I was pretty well-behaved, but ADHD doesn't bode well for keeping you calm in class.

4. Horror junkie all the way

5. Raptor, I think because I'd probably be the idiot trying to sneak up and pet it.

I forgot to mention when we were talking about wolves that I've actually gotten to see them wild in Yellowstone National Park So what kind of animals do you usually see where you live?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kookoo-Howl In reply to xVexVamp [2012-12-17 18:57:04 +0000 UTC]

Hehe a hermit crab! Classic, my ex had a crab that snipped onto the middle of his swim trunks, it refused to let go lol :L

I love horrors! I got hooked when my father lied and told me Sleepy Hollow was about horses and when I realised it was about beheading I made a point I wasnt scared by watching it all (at age 8) he had a wicked sense of humour

I want to go to Yellowstone Park!! I watch all the documentaries on teh wolf packs out there it looks brill!
And umm wildlife in Wales? Well we have foxes, badgers, stouts, otters, a black panther thats been running lose for ten years, red kites, buzzards, snowy owls, tonnes f sea birds, seals, wales, bay sharks, porpoises and a few more. But I still want to travel to see the otehr animals around the world. One day I want to go to the amazon just to see the wildlife there.

Wow, I've never seen a badger in real life, are they very big? I don't see a lot of foxes where I live, but we do have coyotes. I did see an older red fox kit outside its den when I was in Yellowstone I know what you mean about seeing new kinds of wildlife seeing an animal I've never seen before is like meeting a celebrity. Luckily, I’ve gotten to go to a lot of wildlife rescues, where I’ve been able to have up close encounters with all sorts of creatures. I got to hold a baby leopard, a baby kangaroo, a baby alligator, a HUGE albino python (he was wrapped around my neck and his head and tails still managed to touch the ground on either side of me), and I’ve already told you about the wolves I’ve gotten to hang with

Badgers....hmm how to describe them, they're about the size of an average dog but uite bulky with stubby legs, but they are stubborn and powerful. If they get their teeth into you they can do some damage cause they wont let go after a fight, and they have strength, they use their shoulders to dig down deep to make their sets and to get through honey hives, they'll dig out all the honey and not bat a lash at getting stung. They have a foul temper though, they've charged at me and I legged it lol. Well thats a fitting description of badgers, hope it helps
My envy of you just spiked! All those animals that so beats my experiences, the only only other wild animals I've seen have been in zoos and personally thats not the same to me. I want to see them in their natural habitat, I just have to save all my pennies.
I've handled snakes before, there was this exotic lizard handling group that went around to a youth club and I had a cobra to hold, a python draped around my neck, an iguana crawling up my leg, and a few parrots. But my prize moment was when a cobra escaped and got into the school field, I went after it and luckily I pay attention to all my animal documentaries cause I knew how to hold it so that its jaws would lock and it couldnt bite me. The teachers seemed freaked though when I walked up to them holding a pissed off snake lol....well I was 8 I guess lol

Sorry for the late reply, I've been busy, busy, busy with Christmas and getting ready to move.

Anyway, you held a cobra?! That's so cool The most dangerous animal encounter I've ever had was when I got within like three feet of a huge mule deer buck. I took a ton of pictures (you can look on my stock account ~VampsStock if you want to see) but I took the hint to move on when he did this mock charge to tell me I was getting too close. And badgers sound like they're really cool, I'm suprised more people don't draw them.

Just to let you know, I'll be without internet for a few days while I'm moving to a new house, so if I take a while to get back to you, that's why

I'm baaaaack! I'm loving living in the city, plus this house is MUCH bigger than the last one. Off topic: you said you live in Wales, are there a lot of Welsh corgies there? I was thinking about getting one, one day, but I just don't see a lot of them where I live. I thought there might be more of them in their native land

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kookoo-Howl In reply to xVexVamp [2013-01-06 19:55:59 +0000 UTC]

Woooooo!!! Welcome back! Ooh I use to live in the city, moved after my mum got fed up of all the fights with gangs tho hehe.
And hmm theres not that many welsh corgi's in Wales, theres a wide mix of breeds even tho this is the country of their origin. I'd actually say they're more associated with England tho cause the queen has loads of corgies and loves them. They're associated with her more than anything.
But they are great dogs to have. Personally Im saving up for a Alaskan Husky, I love them, well its either that or a collie cross greyhound lercher. Just dont tell my Westie, she gets jealous and lets me know hehe. You'd be surprised at what she does to get her point across.

I had a Siberian husky before we moved and I had to rehome him (don't worry, he went to a great home and has a new best friend in a five-year old little girl). Spitz dogs are just epic, if the owner can handle their needs. That's sort of why I like corgies so much, since they remind me of Spitz-type dogs (a lot of the books I've looked at say that some people think they have Spitz in their background somewhere). I also love akitas, though I doubt I would ever own one.

I know what you mean, I've always been into dogs, I was raised around them since I was born, trained them from pups and I have to say I think I sometimes prefer their company to people. Does that sound weird? X)

Not all at the same time I came up with a pretty name for my rabbit, Teresa, only to discover years later that "she" was in fact a "he" It's kind of hard to tell with rabbits.

Hehe okay hitting the brakes now, X)
Well I lived in the country and I got to know the wildlife really well, and I brought home quite a few injured animals. I found a dead vixen one day, she'd got caught in the barbed wire that had snapped and gone around her throat, and not far from the body was a young kit, only a month or so old I'd say at best. My father told me to leave it and let nature take its course but I couldnt in my heart, so I took her home with me. I raised her, and had to feed her every few hours she was so demanding. I didnt socialise her with humans though and took her out to the wilds as much as I could, then started integrating her with the wild herself, there was an old fox den in the field at the back of my house and she lived there, I fed her reguarly and kept an eye on her making sure she learnt to hunt. She'd been there for a few years when I moved so I like to think she still is. She was lovely and very energetic, she use to visit me bless her >.<
And the same story with the Peregrine falcom, there was a nest by us I'd been watching and one storm got so bad that it knocked a few chicks out, destroyed the nest and the parents abandoned it. I found one still alive with barely any feathers, lucky it hadn't broken anything and after a vet check up I refused to put her down and raised her. Feeding every two hours, I even had to find bugs hehe, gross, I will not mention how I made her eat them, but it was worth it. Teaching her to fly was amazing, I'd hold her in my arms and she'd flap and hop off and flutter to the ground then when she'd get more strength I could through her and she'd take flight. I thought she'd leave me but she came back every time, so I spoke to a friend of mine who was a falconer and got some tips on how to care for her fully and train her. I didnt even keep her in a coop at times, I built a huge bird box in a tree by my house where she'd make her nest and sit in the tree or hunt until I called. She was beautiful. So yeah those were some of the best pets I've had.

xVexVamp In reply to Kookoo-Howl [2013-01-20 18:54:29 +0000 UTC]

That's so cool! What's even more amazing is that you had the kindness in your heart to take the time to care for those animals. It takes a special person to do that. I've never had much luck raising wild animals. I've tried to care for a mockingbird chick that fell from its nest, but it passed away within a couple of days. Same story with a woodpecker that ran into our window and went into shock and a starling that was attacked by one of our cats. Birds are so hard to keep alive sometimes, it's heartbreaking

I have saved quite a few tadpoles, though, if I do say so myself. See, when me and my mom used to live in a rural area, we had a pond behind our house. There were a lot of frogs living there, but every year, sometime between spring and summer, they'd always lay their eggs in this huge puddle that always gathered in a dip in the ground by the pond. Well, the tadpoles didn't have a chance to make it all the way through their metamorphosis before the sun dried up the puddle. I knew I should "let nature take its course" but I couldn't stand to see any creature die like that. So I'd be out there for like two hours every afternoon, wading around in the mud with a little net scooping up hundreds of tadpoles and taking them to the pond. But still, I couldn't save them all, and it always broke my heart when I would walk out one day and find the dried up bodies of the tadpoles left in the puddle

Kookoo-Howl In reply to xVexVamp [2013-01-21 15:06:05 +0000 UTC]

I agree, birds are so fragile and they can die so easily, a few I found had to be put down because they couldnt be helped, I remember there was a pigeon that fell from our school roof once and a cat had it, my dad wouldnt let me bring it home to care for because he was mean idiot, so I put it in a cardboard box under a bush. The next day my mum took me to the school and I climbed the gate to go get it, it actually survived the night and I took it to the vets. I was so happy, I love helping animals. You must have a very kind heart to because you've tried and everything.
Its so sweet you went out of your way to rescue those tadpoles, as my nan would say you earned your angel feathers. Its hard to see creatures die, but like you said it is nature. But you saved as many as you could, so we've both made a difference X)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

xVexVamp In reply to Kookoo-Howl [2013-01-28 18:05:28 +0000 UTC]

Aw, thank you, that's so sweet I found an injured pigeon on my birthday one time. It looked like it had been hit by a car because its leg was mangled and bloody. My mom wanted me to leave it for someone else to find, since we were staying in a hotel at the time, but I ended up getting so upset over it that she let me sneak him into the hotel with us. I put him in a cardboard box with a soft towel and some food and water, and left him there for the night. He had passed away by morning, but it looked as if he died in his sleep, so at least I knew that he wasn't outside baking in the hot sun or being attacked by ants or cruel children. I just can't stand to see animals suffer

Anyway, were the fox and the falcon the most exotic "pets" you've ever had? One of mine had to have been the huge garden spider I kept in my bathroom. She built a web in the corner and I brought in grasshoppers to feed her. That's a really odd conversation to have when your relatives ask why they can't use the upstairs bathroom

Kookoo-Howl In reply to xVexVamp [2013-01-28 22:16:52 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, my those were the only exotic ones I had, my parents refused to let me get a snake or lizard hehe. And teh fox and falcon were on teh condition that I trained the to hunt for themselves, I believe in releasing animals back to the wild.
Haha class! So did they eventually find out? That must've been one spoilt spider, yummy juicy grasshoppers lol.XD

Oh, everyone knew about the spider I've got a pretty awesome mom, she's let me have some really weird pets. I had a rat snake at one point, but he was wild-caught and really mean. When we moved away from the rural area, I released him into the forest. He took off like there was no tomorrow

I'm on the waiting list for a baby cockatiel at the local bird shop They're going to call me when they get the babies in so I can pick one out. He (or she) will stay with them until he's weaned, but I'll get to come and see him often. They also said they would introduce him to a bird harness for me, so I'll be able to take him places with me when he's an adult. I'm so excited

Hehe I bet that snake was probably shouting FREEDOM!! Like William Wallace the legendary Scotsman hehe.
Hehe a bird in a harness? Thats new to me. And birds are awesome, though personally I have a huge aversion to cages, which was why when I had mine I had the coop outside where she could fly in and out when she wanted, I like to give things the opportunity to be free and wild, but she stayed, I must've spoilt her too much hehe.
You better keep me updated on your cockatiel Cant wait to hear more stories from ya XD
