Description Here is a new reference sheet for Saioh. Ā I would like to make matching sheets for more of my characters but I can't seem to find a layout that I like. XD

Big teeth for intimidation will get in the way of biting anything... just saying. He'd have to be able to open his mouth like a snake to even use those giant fangs in the first place.

Just a bit of a critiuque, I guess...?

They aren't for intimidation, but for puncturing fatal holes in its prey's neck. I based them off a Saber-Toothed Tiger's teeth, and they would work in much the same way.

See, that's the problem. Saber-toothed Tigers didn't use those teeth for that. They couldn't. As I said, they would have to be able to open their mouth much like a snake, otherwise there is no way in hell they could open wide enough to get those long fangs into something. They WERE used for intimidation.

Sorry if that ruined anything for you??? Being these aren't actually wolves if I read the description right, you could just MAKE it so their mouths open that wide...

According to the website I read that is what they were used for. [link]
And if you don't want to read it here are two quotes: "Smilodon could open its mouth wider than any modern cat" "...But the consensus is now that the teeth, which measured up to 20cm, delivered final, fatal stabs to already subdued prey."

I would like my fictional creatures to be as realistic as possible. I haven't done much research on the teeth yet, so if that webpage is not the accepted belief by most people I would really appreciate a link that tells of the accurate mechanics of them.

Huh... not what I heard at the museum I work at. Maybe there are different breeds of saber-tooth?

Anyway, thanks for the englightenment
Also, I'll see if I can find some more research... just in case. It's always good to be percise.

Well, it is a relatively new possibility. That article was published in February of 2011. I think there are several kinds.

Thank you as well. I will defiantly do more research on the subject as well.

I've got a useful bit for your research. Look up Tasmanian tiger. Thylocine (sp). There isn't much on them but they could open their mouths massively.
