Bloody hell... they don't half ruin the pictures with shrinking and sorts...
I am probably going to regret submitting this
Anyway, for ages I wanted to draw a dragon as a sort of Guardian Force (similiar to FF8) with Shadow. So I designed and drew a Shadow type dragon... with Shadow himself. Although I think this picture turned out less serene than expected
Okay... I am going to attempt to come up with a logical explanation for the context of this pic...
Shadow has risen from the fires, thanks to his esteemed Chaos Emerald which has kept him alive. Given he is the Ultimate Lifeform and immortal... I thought I'd exercise that concept *eyebrows Sonic Team who killed the 'Immortal being', 'Shadow the Hedgehog' at the end of SA2B*.
He has become immune to fire. THis is why he has risen from molten rock, magma.
Knowing he has a guardian force (can't think of a name), the dragon arrives, heeding his call and the aura of the Chaos Emerald. Seeing legend speaks of dragons are attracted to treasures and such talismans, the dragon has set a pair of keen eyes on the Chaos Emerald so I've tried to establish in the picture.
Other concepts and details
Yes, it looks as if the dragon has flown in too close for comfort, but it looked more effective than high above. The dragon is smalledr than I wanted it to be but by being near Shadow it seems to accentuate its size slightly. It just also seems better to have him close by. Not sure why. Maybe cos it seems unpredictable as to whether the dragon will land, snatch the Chaos Emerald or chow Shadow
The dragon's wings are made of fire
. It has no forearms. The design was slightly derived from the game 'Lords of Magic'... but I couldn't find any references so pretty much drew the dragon myself.Shadow has a scarred eyebrow which is exposed and blemished. It's part of the price of having nearly been killed. The extra spines at the back is some mutation... or freaky evolution.
Shadow's pose, where he has a hand above the Chaos emerald I wanted to portray as if he was drawing power from the emerald... and thus controlling the dragon as well.
The Chaos Emerald was pink at first... but it did NOTHING for the scene. It just conflicted with the hot colours. Green... being complimentary.. helped out. It's jsut that I didn't want a cliched coloured Emerald. But I mean hey... who wants to use grey
? Yellow could've worked but maybe it would've been bland. Red it would've been lost in the background...Nah... green was find. Ugh... a lot of colour switchting there

you're being too nice. Oh... stay out the scrap yard! The pics are sent there as scraps for a reason

I enjoyed this... but am not pleased with the result. I might try this concept with Wraith next. There is a dragon creature called Thunderdrake and guess what he is? An Ice Dragon!

Geez! This is absolutely amazing... wonderful work! Truely remarkable.
First off, I love the colouring that is present within this picture... everything creates a brilliant mood of tension expectancy... I want to find out what happens next! >.<
The dragon's design is also excellent and brilliantly drawn. I love dragons and their design, and also intriquing and interesting. Unfortunately, I'm not that good in actually drawing them, but this is fantastic. Brilliant. I especially like the firery design of the wings.
Shadow's pose is also brilliant, and the colouring of the Chaos Emerald was nicely chosen to contrast against the rest of the picture and its black and reds. I totally agree with your choice and reasoning, considering how the rest of the colours could have caused problems and destroyed the overall atmosphere present. However, one kind of colour that you might have been able to add could have bright blue... which could cause a nice contrast to a possible Wraith picture and if he held the red Chaos Emerald.
And one of the aspects of this picture that I find most brilliant is your story and your explanation... I wouldn't have thought any story or background would have been neccessary, but this is sheer brilliance, as an explanation for Shadow's survival, even if his death has been confirmed by Sonic Team. (Btw, imo, I believe Shadow's better for the fact that he died in SA2B... making look a true hero... but either way, that isn't the point of this comment.
Once again, pure brilliance. A definite fav. Well done, and thank you for showing us all this brilliance.

I'm a huge fan of dragons myself. Not that I stick to any... fandom? I do think they're fascinating nonetheless. Dragons were my main subject matter in Matric artwork in South Africa. That and wolves.
I suppose blue could've worked with teh Chaos Emerald. Really well in fact. However, I think there are more sinister connatations with green. Such as 'green with envy'... or whatever.
Did Sonic Team confirm Shadow's death? Where was this now
Hmmm... I really don't want to sounds pessimistic... and obviously I won't say this at the mofo but to me he seemed as if he died pointlessly. Some will say he fulfilled his purpose and saw no other reason to live, but to me it looked as he needlessly commited suicide. The ending was full of holes and it was there just so that Sonic Team wouldn't have to fret about deciding on a proper agenda for Shadow in the upcoming series... need it be. That's just my opinion. It didn't convey an act of a hero to me. But that's just my opinion.

Personally I'm not too sure about Sonic Team's confirmation, but I found a topic being discussed with South Island which is discussing this and about the fact that Sonic Team did confirm it. I'm not too sure... it was mostly a skim read, but the topic title was fairly self-explanatory.
I agree about the green with envy comments... green does indeed symbolise many things, and I do believe it works incredibly well in the context of the Shadow picture. Light blue was a quick thought I thought could work well in a contrasting Wraith pic, but at the moment this pic is perfect as it is. ^^
The reason I felt he fulfilled his purpose... was because he died saving the world, and having to do so with the last remnants of his energy. Shadow states during the battle against the Final Hazard that he couldn't maintain his superform, through either inexperience or a higher exert of energy and strength (maybe the two?) but the Ark would only have stopped its descent when he utilised his energy enough to be able to Chaos Control the Ark away... with took away the remainder of his energy. He died saving the planet, and fulfilled Maria's wish. To give the people of Earth a chance to be happy. And with their lives saved, this definately did so. And in this context, his purpose was fulfilled.
I felt it satisfying and very concluding. I also believe, to be honest, that it was a shame that he was reintroduced in SH and SB. I understand that he is a popular character, but one who would have had much more of an impact if his death was concrete. His sacrifice was very well played out, as was Gamma's in SA

Final Fantasy 8 rocks. Completely. So do guardin forces. My fav is Bahamut.. well u know it... and it's such a cool idea.. I mean Shadow having a gf? Sonic would have a Tonbery lmao
