Appel's birth name is Meri, but she was quick to take on her nickname which she was given for her obsession with apples, and it soon became the name she is mostly known by. She never introduces herself as Meri and considers it to be more like her middle name.

Whether she is driven by courage or fearlessness, Appel is probably one of the most willing cats to dive head-first into practically anything that involves risk, no matter what the costs may be. She doesn't tend to consider the consequences for her actions and simply does whatever seems the most fun at the time, no matter how outrageous and unacceptable. With an extremely short attention span and a reputation for being a prankster, she gets a lot of enjoyment for planning schemes against other cats and she'll try to drag anyone she can to join her in her adventures.

There are certain things that you simply can't make Appel do. She works completely to her own schedule, and she doesn't have any qualms in refusing tasks from even the most fearsome hunters. She doesn't often have any intentions in pulling her weight in the way of training or other mandatory tasks given by her authorities, and she has a habit of doing the exact opposite of what she has been told. If it doesn't seem fun, dangerous, or competitive, Appel will simply refuse to do it -- and it's basically impossible to change her mind once she has decided something.

Appel always seems to be completely at home with every cat, or human, she meets -- no matter the size, rank, social status, or any other factor. She accepts every form of behaviour, and is easily persuaded into anything that seems enticing.

Although her parents were neither mates nor part of a breeding program, three cubs were born to Marus and Elaine during the particularly unsettled winter months. Meri, her brother and sister were born on the 5th of November, 45 BC, and the family were happy for a time with both parents taking part in raising the cubs despite their relationship. Meri, or Appel as she later took to calling herself, was known for being a particularly lively tribune from the moment she could walk or talk, and she seems to love causing havoc wherever she goes. Despite this, she adores her family and is loyal to them above anything else.
