xyxtlin β€” Fatter isn't always better

Description
I get a little tired of people implying (or just outright saying) that anything fatter I draw is always better (no matter how much work I put into something I've just drawn that just happens to look "slimmer" pay no attention to higher quality line art folks!).

I was feeling a bit more irked about it last night than usual, I decided to make a statement with this little "tutorial"

Yes, I could just draw super fat things, yes I could do drawings in 5 minutes flat... why wouldn't I? because I care about quality.

Admittedly I'm just an amature artist, and I don't have nearly as much talent as most people here on DA, but at least I care about some of the art I do.

Bring out the flame throwers

Post Production note: "Looks" was a typo, and I'm too lazy to go back and fix it

I think you make part of your point very well, but there is equally no question that even an immobile fat girl can also be drawn very well, and even as something of a beauty. I, too, am no fan of the 'lump of lard'-type of method, although, in fact, you DID do it pretty well.

Well, I know I am totally late commenting here, but what the heck. This whole thing has always been my issue. Western 'large' art is very concentrated on inhumanly large figures. I have yet to figure out what the deal is with it. Things usually are on a continuum and weight is one of them. Everyone has (or at least should) have an ideal... give or take. But it seems that many people (whether it be skinny or large) simply have a drop off point- a lowest without going under, or a highest without going over. This whole idea is utterly flawed and shows a lack of depth in appreciation for the female form.

Honestly, I prefer to go for more realistic women. Stuff like this is obviously pure fantasy.

Man... I must have been tired. I don't know what my point was... er, anyway. I agree, these fantasies are not a good way to go. Props to having cahones to take a stance that could (probably did) alienate some of your watchers.

Sweet dang you've gotten a lot of comments on this one, guess I'll add mine to the pile. It doesn't sound like you intended this to be a critique against other artists who will go unnamed, but that's how I read it when I first came upon this piece a while ago, and I was glad somebody noticed that it takes some talent to make this kind of art work right. Thanks for having standards :thumbs up:

I've seen your art around for quite a while, and I've always thought your style was interesting

I agree that it's annoying and ridiculous that there seems to be so many people who just draw a lumpy circle and put faces on it and call it art. I really do hate it. It lacks talent and creativity, which you've shown with your little parody here pretty well.

But I also said that I liked some of your previous works because the girls were bigger than your newer stuff, so I feel a bit bad or hypocritical for that.

I did say (I think) that of course your newer art is more realistic and better from an artistic viewpoint over the stuff from, like, 2005. It's just that some of your older stuff has it's own simple charm that I enjoy.

I just naturally enjoy expansion and the bigger girls more than the more realistically proportioned ones, but of course the amorphous blobby stuff is WAY in the extreme for me. And it's insulting, I'm sure for you and your fans.

Or maybe not for you since your art looks like a fucking Rembrandt by comparison to some of the crap some people pump out.

Hmm interesting comments.

I tend not to take this too seriously. People draw what they like, occasionally I get annoyed when people keep wanting to drive me towards what they want, but its really my decision anyway.

I'll just keep drawing what I want to and let people think what they want
