Description
Okay, even though this shot is so very common, I had to do it because these half-shadow portraits are my fav type of drawing to do! This gave me some issues for awhile but I think I got around most of them. The original is not this dark, so I had to do a little image adjusting to get it the way I wanted. The lighter version just did not look as good as a scanned image, compared to the actual drawing, if that makes sense.Related content

Goodness gracious, I like this very much. An instant FAVE. I've seen this exact type of shot at the fair once. I was riding on the Enterprise and it was so amazing ! I had to do it because I love Star Trek and Spock.
This is very well drawn, I'm impressed ! I really like how you bring out the contrast. Very dark and mysterious, but in a good way. Kudos to you !

Yep, one of the promotional shots that I did I really like this one too, it was my featured one for a long time. But I LOVE doing faces in half shadow. I dunno why

Ahh, maybe I can answer that for you. I notice the ones that are half-shadowed tend to bring out the realness, and has a depth to it. It looks so surreal and mysterious in a way. It's a skill not a lot of people have, even if they are talented at drawing. But I definitely see it in your drawings. Just a study from all of your work. ^^

That probably has something to do with it. I remember in one of my drawing classes the teacher didnt even WANT us drawing faces unless we could find a picture with high contrast. He said otherwise it was near impossible to portray dimension. Well you cant get higher contrast than a half shadow face

Oh wow, really ? Well the only time I had art class was in second grade, so I don't really know what it is like. Yes, yes, stick with the half-shadow face portraits because you're so great at it.

I took art classes for 4 years in high school and you know what? I learned more from one of my drawing books Besides, I got sick of being told what to do, how to do it, and when to have it done by. I wanna do what I want, when I want, whenever I want, dammit!
So by the time I took a semester of drawing in college I had already developed my technique and style, so it went a lot easier than my high school art classes

See ?! That is exactly why I didn't take art classes at all. I don't get to do what I want. And when I don't get to what I want, I get pissed. I learn how to draw by watching people draw or by studying their artwork. I'm glad you enjoyed your semester of drawing in college rather than in your high school years.

Lol no problem hun, IΒ΄m trying to do the same pic myself, but it always turns owt only looking slightly on the person i try and draw, some are better than others, but theyΒ΄re no way near as realistic as urs! ItΒ΄s just lots of practice as well as an amazing talent I guess!!
