Description Antique postcard
Circa early 20th century

Handsome young couple in evening dress
Signed by artist - "Usabal"

About the artist

 Luiz Felipe Usabal Hernandez   1876-1937

Usabal was a Spanish painter who is known among deltiologists and ephemera collectors for his paintings of beautiful women. He illustrated a number of film posters and glamour postcards that sometimes leaned toward the risqué. During World War One he provided a number of illustrations for postcards, many of which were used by German publishers.

I had forgotten all about Usabal, so this card shakes my memory.  He really had a knack for this style.  Their pose, as well as the fantastic furniture blows me away.    Oh, yeah... her evening dress and pearls are quite remarkable, too.

One of the best! Dealers who are into him mark his cards up, up , up . . . The only times I afford new ones are when I pick them out of mixed/unsorted boxes in antiques stores. The average antique center dealer dabbles in a little bit of everything, and doesn't spend much time memorizing P.C. artists other than Alphonse Mucha, Frances Brundage, and Ellen Clapsaddle.
"Artist-signed" postcards are overwhelmingly the most popular cards among collectors.

Wow, how interesting.  Searching through all those boxes can be fun, I imagine.  I used to love searching through boxes of old photos, hoping to garner a few gems.

Thanks for that link.  It gives me a lot to study.
