I tried painting

Ok so recently I found a pearl, a treasure, a perfect being made a perfect tutorial. For years I've tried to find a tutorial on "how to paint when you never did it on your life and you're just a cartoony artist who never got rid of her damn lineart" I tried to type it on google but it never found anything. Painting tutorials on the net are all my by and for artists who already have a certain good damn level in art, not for newbies like me *sigh*. So, I was browsing someone's favourite folder named "tutorials" and I found this life-changing gem:

Just. Check. It. And check that artist they're gorgeous as well. It was an instant +watch for me!
So anyway I saw that and then it was like a revelation, a light at the end of a very long corridor: that tutorial was easy enough and so well explained that it was within my reach ._. I had to test.

So far, here's my review:
I started sketching in my style as usual; nothing's changing at this step. The artist next start applying colors right there - but I couldn't help myself and made a second layer with proper lines. Not a lineart yet but not a sketch anymore - geez take it as my way to "clean" my lineart.
Then I applied flat colors roughly and I wasn't in my comfort zone. Then, the shading... Y'know, I usually have like, 15 layers of shading and lights and backlights, and effects but dang, I didn't knew what I was doing already, so I just sticked with one single layer of shading. It was a torture. Next time I do this I'll try to sneak and add all my shading layers and effect as I love to do it, perhaps it'll be easier to paint afterwards? Who knows.
Then the painting step. Oh boy. I can't say if it was the best or the worst experience of my life: I could fix anything I wanted - the chin was too big so I just colored over, the skin was too dark so I just painted over, I could test some brushes that were perfect for painting and I never really tried before, etc. I even felt confident enough to merge all my layers and quickly, I only had a unique layer. I never did that in my life :') It seemed infinite, like if I could work on this piece for hours and hours and hours and only change it and update it and change colors again and there's always something to fix somewhere; "end if when you're satisfied with your work" the artist said but when in hell do you know if you're satisfied with your current work? You ALWAYS can update it for the better, every change I made was cool, I could never stop! I actually stopped when it was too much painting for my soul.
The final result is... strange. I feel like I still have a thousand things to improve. And I feel like I just basically copied thet artist's style and picked their colors and when I'll have to do it by myself without this tutorial Ill hit a wall again. Guess it's just a matter of practice, like for everything else. And I feel like it's not my artstyle at all; y'know, that strange feeling you got when you just finish a piece and 2 seconds after you're like "Did I do that? Is it me who painted this piece right now? Doens't feel like it."

Anyway. I'll try that again, for sure. I'll try to mix my usual technics of shading with this lineless painting style, and see what comes. Tests incoming on this account, lads! Also if you have any great technics to paint REALISTIC SKIN, please send that to me XD no more cartoon ):< Also the head is so flat omg
