This week's art jam was "Gemsonas", and I picked Labradorite. I've seen a fair few Labradorite Gemsonas come across my dash, but this stone (and moonstone) have been my favorite stones for a long time, so I just shrugged and did it anyway. It was a real challenge, since Labradorite has a lot of colors/gradients. Gem characters on Steven Universe tend to have around six colors and very, VERY simple designs, and the show doesn't do gradients, rather they use color relativity and optical coloring to mimic gradients where they need it. The design sans color was actually pretty easy. It didn't take long for me to decide on a giant hammer, and since gems are basically projections of their self-identity, it was easy to just emphasize my own self-identity personified in my persona. The colors on the other hand stumped me for a bit, they were originally darker, which just looked terrible.

I went with black for the skin, since Labradorite is technically colorless/grey/brown when it's really thick.

Overall I like the design, and I may alter it/the character and use it elsewhere.
