How to Install Custom Themes  - A guide by neiio

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You need your system to be patched first in order to install 3rd party visual styles for Windows (uxstyle or uxtheme patcher).
uxstyle.com

You can use the Theme Installer to install the theme afterwards:
www.deviantart.com/art/Windows…
Or manually move the theme to WindowsResources folder.

You can use Navigation Icons Customizer to edit the explorerframe:
www.door2windows.com/windows-7…
Or manually edit WindowsSystem32explorerframe.dll with a resource editor (I use Restorator) to replace the matching resource bitmaps.

For the Start Orb you can use:
www.door2windows.com/windows-7…

I used the same shell32.dll as my Dota 2 Desktop for Windows .

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Matching Icons:
League of Legends Icons v3

Matching Rainmeter skin (updated - with configuration utility; another update is coming up soon):
League of Legends Dock 1.5

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm planning to add more to the package (cursors, media player skins, etc), and update further as needed whenever I have the time.
Now started working on an in-game VS too, as well as looking into how to port to Windows 8.

Seems pretty odd, though I've met with a problem like this a few times.

Sometimes it helps to apply basic theme then Aero again, sometimes reinstalling uxstyle does the trick, sometimes it's neither.

Sadly not all the people who manage to resolve an issue send a feedback on how they did it, so I can only guess from afar.

Thanks anyways!

Where can you find the start icon?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yorgash In reply to AllFantasyCreatures [2013-12-13 20:59:42 +0000 UTC]

It's inside the downloaded archive, in the "Start Orb" folder.

does it need a new explorer.exe?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yorgash In reply to xsiLence9 [2013-12-13 13:40:20 +0000 UTC]

No, explorer.exe only changes the start orb, but with Start Orb changer and the included .png files there's no need to edit / replace the explorer.exe.

There's only one work-around for those whose explorer frames are not changed even with Navigation icons customizer that I know if;

you have to open your \Windows\System(32, I'm not sure which)\explorerframe.dll with a resource editor (I use Restorator 2009), and then:

With Restorator, you should open \Windows\System32\explorerframe.dll
(or \System\explorerframe.dll, not sure which one), and afterwards
open "bitmap", and replace the files with the ones in the package.
If I'm not mistaken, the numbers of the bitmaps to change are:
280: Frame
288: Go_Stop_Refresh_Dropdown
337: Go
577: Default
578: Hover
579: Disabled
581: Pressed
34560: Go (not sure which one is which, but changing both is sure to do the job)
34569: Stop Default
34575: Stop Hover
34581: Stop Disabled

In case this is NOT the exact numbers, I'm sorry, but you can probably
figure out which one is which though you might have to strain your
eyes a bit.

I hope I could help!

For the record, did you install everything in admin mode just to be safe?

Also, can you not apply any 3rd party visual styles?

vitebs In reply to yorgash [2013-12-13 22:11:55 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, i did everything with admin mode and not, i can't apply ANY 3rd party visual styles... Heck, i can't apply styles at all. I don't have the theme select like everyone, heck, i barely have a visual options in my windows interface

Seems like your Windows really is broken.

I recall someone mentioned a command to restore Windows system files that should have helped, but I can't for the life of me remember or find it.

I can only guess your system patch (uxstyle or universal theme patcher) is faulty or missing, or it might have restricted access to the system.

I recommend reinstalling it with admin priviliges, and see if it resolves.

Yes, thanks!

It should work all the same way, I've been looking around for a vidoe guide like this in quality and others!

Though I myself don't use uxtheme patcher (I use uxstyle instead), it should be just as good.

Please report back whether you managed to install it this way!

yorgash In reply to Alexyaknow [2013-12-09 02:33:19 +0000 UTC]

Oh I tend to be all over the place sometimes
The explorerframes are the bitmaps in the folder, for 64 bit system you can either change them with a program called "Navigation Icons Customizer", or (if this program doesn't work) manually replacing the dll file's resources:

If worst comes to worst, you could change them with a resource editor
(I use Restorator 2009).

With Restorator, you should open \Windows\System32\explorerframe.dll
(or \System\explorerframe.dll, not sure which one), and afterwards
open "bitmap", and replace the files with the ones in the package.
If I'm not mistaken, the numbers of the bitmaps to change are:
280: Frame
288: Go_Stop_Refresh_Dropdown
337: Go
577: Default
578: Hover
579: Disabled
581: Pressed
34560: Go (not sure which one is which, but changing both is sure to do the job)
34569: Stop Default
34575: Stop Hover
34581: Stop Disabled

In case this is NOT the exact numbers, I'm sorry, but you can probably
figure out which one is which though you might have to strain your
eyes a bit.

yorgash In reply to Alexyaknow [2013-12-11 06:16:25 +0000 UTC]

Damn...

Well there are many resource editors (like Resource Hacker or Resource Tuner) that can open and modify resources of dll files.

But if you upload your explorerframe.dll I'll edit it for you.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yorgash In reply to Saturolon [2013-12-07 17:10:55 +0000 UTC]

Not sure yet, sadly, though one of my mates have made it work on his 8, but I can't contact him since to ask for the modded file.

Maybe it's easy, but I don't have 8 installed (or any HDD space to spare yet), so for the time being I'm unable to dig deeper inside. I will however be able to free some space up after some of my exams (near the end of the month).

I have tried to make one, but it's either me doing something wrong, or it really is like that, but any single video I capture requires 500MB / minute at least... what program should I use for desktop capturing? My computer only has about 1GB free space no matter how I try.

Hello, first I want to say thank you! You made an awesome theme for windows
But I wonders, why clicking on the "Play now" button does not do anything. I guess because my .exe is in a different location, any idea how I can fix that?

Hello!

First of all, thanks!

For he Play Now button - since I've yet to make a correction, silly me - you have to right click -> edit skin; find the [PlayB] meter, and then find in it:

LeftMouseDoubleClickAction=!Execute [""]

Between the qoutation marks goes your game's path.

Seems strange.

The code part should be okay.

You tried double clicking on it? Because due to issues I had to make it only run by double-click.

Oh also, many ofter forgets to right click -> refresh skin before trying it, and Rainmeter only applies the saved .ini file after you refresh the skin or Rainmeter.

I've been looking around at forums, the only viable thing I should mention to problems like this was that somehow the theme wasn't installed in \Windows\Resources\Themes folder, but I doubt that's the case for you, still was worth a try mentioning it.

Don't lose hope, I'll be looking around what can be causing it!

Whereever I'm trying I get that if it once worked correctly, it only can mean that the uxstyle stopped working afterwards.

I've yet to come across a solution.

Say, have you tried if you can install any other 3rd party visual styles since?
Maybe there really is some problem in your theme subsystem, but it might have to do with the theme itself.

I've encountered cases where re-downloading my theme solved the problem for someone, though chances are low.
