Description This is my first tutorial. >.
This is just the way I prefer to color eyes. Easy, simple, and nothing fancy. There are a lot of eye tutorials out there. C: Mine is just a very simple one for those who may have just started out and need some guidance before going into something more complicated.

I know the images I have provided are poor in quality. I have a very cheap digital camera so I did whatever I could to make the quality the best I could. I even did some slight editing on PhotoStudio 6.0.

I know that the images aren't nicely aligned. I hope you guys can look past that... DX

Here is a piece of artwork I drew that clearly shows the eyes being colored better. If anything is unclear in the tutorial, hopefully this image can provide a visual of those parts: [link]

If any of this information continues to be unclear, please do not hesitate to ask! C:
If you do try this, link me! * O*!

Choose a different typeface - I'd recommend Helvetica or Verdana, but Times New Roman would work well too- to make your text more easily readable.

Try to align the first line of text and the number with the top of the graphic for the step. If you do that, you won't need the white lines dividing each step from the other.

^__^ Simple and effective colouring of eyes~ I liked this tutorial. Good job.

A suggestion: Perhaps, for better quality images of the picture, [and this will be tedious I know] it is best to scan each step as you make it. That way you can organize the pictures into a folder and have them ready to go on your computer when you make a tutorial.

I..ok...But how do you draw the EYE^^

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Yukaita In reply to LittleCyberDog [2011-01-21 23:13:02 +0000 UTC]

Well, the reason I didn't show how to draw the eyes was because everyone draws eyes differently.
I will make a personal eye drawing tutorial for you later if you want me to.

TJRiggs In reply to LittleCyberDog [2011-03-17 15:03:32 +0000 UTC]

The two most common problems people run into with eyes are
1) struggling with realism
and
2) struggling with perspective

For 1, people think "I want my character's eye to look human" - even if the rest of their character is a caricature of the human form. It's often better to choose a simple style of eye that fits your style of drawing and go with that. You can find these in children's learn to draw books- they'll give you a ton of eyes to choose from.

For 2, when drawing anything but a direct frontal view, we have to consider perspective. Foreshortening applies to the eyes like it does to the rest of the body (if you don't foreshorten, your character looks funny), but it applies more than the rest because there is a curvature to the front of the face. That means unlike the shoulders, an eye in perspective is also at a different plane than the first one, so you have to rotate the view of the eye in addition to making it smaller.

Hope this wall of text helps!
