I think we all saw this coming after I made my animated Bakura sprite. [link]

Yes, I know I'm reusing the same unoriginal title as the other sprite, but I figured it was appropriate. That and I'm lazy.

And now on to the rambling portion of the description. For those who didn't already know from reading the description in the other sprite, this picture originally started as a concept sketch of what Bakura and Malik look like in the Yu-Gi-Oh! fan fiction and I wrote called Aurora, which can be found here. [link] It's a romantic drama starring the thief king Bakura and Malik , set back in Ancient Egypt before the period of time that the Memory Arc recreated, while following anime canon (with some gaps filled with information from the manga where it doesn't conflict with the anime) as closely as possible. (Yes, it's yaoi / shonen ai / Critonshipping (sp?) / Thiefshipping for those who prefer the use of those terms.)

As much as I love to plug Aurora everywhere because I'm so gosh darn proud of our story, I've done surprisingly little fan art for it. So in order to fix that I sketched out how Bakura and Malik would look back then and in the present in "Coot" style (which is my eccentric form of SD (Super Deformed)). This in turn will help me when drawing future fan art of them. Since the drawing was basically repeated with only minor details changed I wasn't sure which to refine and post, so instead of deciding, I picked a set at random to try and turn into sprites with the hope that I could tweak these sprites with the varying styles and make a sprite sheet.

I probably will go insane before that happens so I might just simply color each sketch and post them all even if the pose will be repetitive. Spriting movement is a lot easier when it's smaller.

Doing Bakura's sprite taught me a few things about spriting, and since Malik tends to be more expressive, I was able to do more to animate him. This is my biggest animation I've ever done at 60 frames total. That's more than four times the frames in the Bakura animation, which was only 14.

I think the next animation I do (if I don't alter my Bakura and Malik sprites) will be a lot smaller so I can move them around move without it looking awkward.
