Description This is my first successful attempt as drawing up a 3D model using AutoCAD. Nothing to special about the design, but I basically just drew it to see what I could do with the 3D skilled I've learned.

I recognize this airframe --- it looks like an SAIA 90, designed by FMA in Argentina.

This may not be what you were thinking of when you were designing the F-30, but there's an old saying in the aircraft design industry; "Similar requirements result in similar designs."

Oh wow, I can see what you mean by the similarities. that took me by suprise since I was just drawing the F-30 from out of my head. I wasn't looking at any references for it's design. I didn't realize the airframe I drew up was so much like one that's already been down.

It's tough trying to come up with a totally original design, but it's not a big deal if your own looks similar to an earlier project.

The Chief of the Mig-29 project in the MIG Bureau once said in an interview, that aircraft with similar design requirements usually end up having a similar appearance.

In other words, the F-30 Stig demonstrates that you're as smart as a whole aircraft design firm.

Ya, that's cool. I'm glad I can match up with an entier design firm, that's more than I expected. hehe

Ya, it's was pretty cool. i miss that class a bit sometimes.

not not literally big but as in financially hehehe
dang wish they make a demo to run that engine even for a while im sure it would be an awesome sight

Oh, ok I see what you mean. Well the two planes and the jet engine were donated to the school by the very near by air port. I wish we could have run the engine as well, that would havew been awesome.

wow a guy after my own heart....well in term of gundam heheheh but dang your school must be 'big' to get some planes and an engine....is the engine operational for demo or display?

yukikaze07 In reply to boomstix [2008-06-26 16:16:05 +0000 UTC]

Well the Cessnas aren't that big, and the engine is about the length of a small car. The engine works, but would need fuel and electrical to fully operational, but that can't be done since it's mainly for display, but it has all it's working parts.

damn an aircraft class we dont have those T_T dang i really envy you

yukikaze07 In reply to boomstix [2008-06-25 16:17:45 +0000 UTC]

Ya, it was really cool. We even had a J33 Allison Jet Engine in the class. Along with that the class also had two Cessna 152s. Though one of my favorite parts of the class was when we got to go on a field trip to Edwards Air Force Base for a tour. Though I was the only student that was able to name every aircraft that we saw on base. lol

heheh, I guess that's understandable. for me it also helps that I took an aircrafts class back in high school.

oh so they teach you the advantages of design of different 'top' planes? thats awesome, truthfully when i design planes I go purely on aesthetics to base my physics hehehe

Ya, though I also base my stuff off the research in avionics and physics that I have done over the years.

Thanks, this is just what I was able to draw after three days of class. hehe. As I learn more, my 3d modeling should also start to get better.

Now, where did you get the name "Stig" from?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yukikaze07 In reply to Jim-Prower [2008-06-20 01:07:15 +0000 UTC]

No where in particular. Just a random name that popped in my head when I was trying to think of what to call it. If you have any better name suggestions I'm open for some.

No, not that I do, It's just that it shares the name with the masked racing driver on the BBC program "Top Gear."

Oh right, I forgot about that. Hehe just a coincidence is all. That hadn't crossed my mind till you mentioned it. lol
