Description

This is the first image I feel is good enough to submit to my actual gallery. Even though I have a long ways to go learning vray, I’m really happy with the end result. Nice and shiny!

I improvised a little bit here and there, where there should be better & easier ways to achieve a particular effect (background reflections for example), but if you just don’t know what options to check… Thank God for all the youtube tutorials, otherwise I’d be truly lost.

Anyways, live & learn, trail & error, keep calm & carry on and all that. Next up is trying to get emissive materials to do what I want them to do! BTW the headlights are actually emissive, but the effect is far from what a headlight should look like).  Also, a render like this clearly shows that the door in the cabin needs work. It’s just a flat surface now.

A bit about the image: it’s my ’76 Advanced Transport concept truck. I made a sort of studio background with a floor that curves into a back wall and give is a subtle geometric texture for reflection effect. Main illuminations is strip lighting from the right (a row of 3 large ‘strips’ of rectangle lights) and one smaller light to the left for reflections in the glass canopy.  Two large imported photographs behind the camera provide additional background reflections. I didn’t use a physical camera.

I would worry about the single wheel.
The front of trucks is very popular with wildlife.

Awesome work!

Well, given the awesome designs in that movie, I'll take that as a very big compliment!

Very cool render of one of your most stylish designs. What's that reflection on the trailer?

I think the render looks great, however as a truckdriver I have a couple of issues with the model. I don't know what scale your model is but the current legal length for trailers is 53
feet. The distance from the kingpin on the fifth wheel to the trailer axles cannot be more than 40 feet this is called the bridge law. You have the trailer tandems all the way at the back of the trailer with no way to slide them forward to adjust the weight of the load on them. This presents a couple problems, firstly this trailer could only haul light loads, the further the trailer axles are away from the tractor drive wheels puts more weight on the drive wheels, which is ok maybe it is a specialty trailer for a race car or for a nursery to haul flowers with. Secondly having the trailer axles all the way at the back makes for some bad maneuvering because the pivot point for making turns is all the way to the rear. To make a hard turn on a city street with traffic would be nearly impossible, the tractor would have to swing out a long way before cutting back to make the turn. It would also make backing up in tight places very hard because the tractor needs a lot of real estate to make anything happen at the back of the trailer, so parking between trucks in a tightly filled truckstop would be a frustration. I also wonder about the big single tire on the front of the tractor, in the event of a blow out there would be total loss of control. I also have no clue how a wrecker would pick it up for towing or to change the tire.

Sorry for picking it apart I think it looks great, just impractical. With some tweaking keeping in mind real world physics you could be on to something.

Hey, I am grateful for picking this apart! To be honest, I made this as a concept truck and tried to make it look as cool as possible without much thought for practical reasons. The trailers wheels being so far to the back was inspired by the polular A-class cars here in Europe (those really small ones like a Toyota Aygo, Smart, or Volkswagen Fox). They have the same, although it is used to create more interior space. The whole size of the truck (lxbxh) is actually very close to a Freightliner with trailer (like this one ), as I used it one for size comparisons .

Anyways, I will definitely keep your comments in mind for future reference!
