Description This is the second of the five classes of spaceships in Star Pirates, the Frigat class. Full name: Solar Transit Fabrication Utilities 'Frigat' class cargo liner.

This image show the Mk III, whose paint scheme I rather like, in the beauty shot with the nice background and dramatic lighting. I’ll post the other in an overview.

This is the second ship I made and it’s completely ground-up. I incorporated some of the ‘technology’ used in the Sloop class, but the enhancements made it necessary to model them from scratch. The particle collector scoop arrays are more detaile now, as is the exhaust system. By the way, yes, that's a fully modelled bridge. Just like the vierling-gun on top, I tend to spend way too much time on details no-one will ever see. I'm kind of hardcore / a geek like that.

Bit of background info:
I wanted to do slightly raised surfaces for the hull panelling. I tried it first on the reactor intakes and believe you me, in Sketchup, this is not an efficient way of working. Coloring and intersecting is a nightmare and will take waaaay too much time. I use a main color, a teenie-tiny darker shade of main color and an off-color to create a hull-panelling-look and it worked a lot better.

Those little details you spend so much time on really add life to the picture. A window that didn't show the bridge would also fail to show the scale of this ship. Working up an interior shows how big this thing is in relation to things we know (like chairs).

The color schemes are great, the cel look you are getting from SU is cool, and the well thought out detail like bridges glimpsed through the window, the reinforced corrugated panels for the cargo doors, or the track on top of the frigates really sell these designs.

Really just great work in this series of ships.

Thanks man, it's really good to see someone appreciate all those details I gave so much thought to. This commission really boosted my greeblie-skills. I just hope I can finally find some time to go back to modelling again.
