Yes, certianly this would be the GUI for top military class ships or bases....even better if they're manned by robots.

IND1GOblue In reply to Sophtopus [2009-05-03 16:58:50 +0000 UTC]

why would a robot need a gui? ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sophtopus In reply to IND1GOblue [2009-05-04 14:43:02 +0000 UTC]

Oh no, it's not the robot's GUI but rather the robot manning the said spaceship that utilizes the GUI

It can be manned by anyone (because only then you have a market), but the image of a robot manning the thing fits the whole supertechno feel.

IND1GOblue In reply to Sophtopus [2009-05-04 21:36:57 +0000 UTC]

yeah i was just thinking why would a robot need a physical GUI when it could just have a connection to the ships's mainframe providing it with all the information, but yeah i like the idea for the techno theme

Wow...pretty nice and clean.

OMG 1113 layers..you should merge layers sometimes XD How big is the ps file?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

z-design In reply to Psysoul [2009-05-03 10:28:57 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I know, it's a lot of layers hehe. My computer started lagging when I was finishing up.

The problem with merging the layers is that many of the layers/duplicated layers use the "overlay" blend to achieve that sort of blue "glow-effect"... and if I merge those, the single merged layer loses the intended effect, so I had to leave them.

The PSD file is about 7.5Megs. Thanks for the comment

I don't mean to undermine your talent but as an IxD I feel I must speak out.
This is an illustration, a good one but certainly not an interface and in no way related to the activity of an interface designer.
Even if you look at it as a "concept" you still have to define functionality first, you can't just throw controls on a canvas until something pretty emerges.
I don't mean to rant about what the "2Advanced generation" is doing to design but maybe you'd think twice about which category you're submitting to...?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

z-design In reply to fiveseven [2009-05-03 09:54:57 +0000 UTC]

I have in fact, thought about specific categories, but I felt this one was the best suited for this piece. You make a good point, however, whether or not this category accounts for fictional functionality is beyond my knowledge.

I created this considering the fictional screen interfaces you see in sci-fi movies such as minority report, iron man, stargate atlantis, etc. In the movies, they are considered "applications" for its respective scene in the movie/show, hence why I submitted under "application interfaces."

My assumption is that the functions placed upon the image submitted under this category DO NOT have to be respective of real-world functions like the usual "volume control", "stop/play/fastforward", or "MPH", etc. Perhaps this could be for a video-game whose plot takes place in the future?

Unless I actually get reprimanded by a staff in regards to the category, I will keep it where it is.

hkk [2009-05-03 08:19:21 +0000 UTC]

wow! thats one amazin UI
may i note, though, that you give the velocity in m/s but the core temp and your altimeter in imperial units? ^^
i should hope that by 2045 everyone uses metric units xD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

z-design In reply to hkk [2009-05-03 08:27:44 +0000 UTC]

The interface should allow the user to instantaneously switch between imperial/metric units based on user's preferences of the given measurement... but good observation nonetheless, and thanks!

hkk In reply to z-design [2009-05-03 08:40:21 +0000 UTC]

youre welcome
The next step would now to code an application which uses this interface and utilizes a 3D-Engine xD that would be soooo awesome

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

z-design In reply to hkk [2009-05-03 10:24:24 +0000 UTC]

Considering the feedback I've gotten on this, I will most likely be designing REAL-WORLD applications such as media players, etc. that emphasizes this same style. I'm sure there are plenty of coders out there willing to collaborate to realize the design into a functional program. Keep an eye out!

Damn man that is hot!!
At the least it would make a damn good wallpaper (if it fitted properly and didnt look squished on my screen )
Anywho, awesome job

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

z-design In reply to HyperCannon [2009-05-03 07:56:54 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, thanks man.

You know what you could do though... is open photoshop and expand the canvas(not the image itself) to compensate for the size of your screen, using a black background. If your screen is smaller than the image, decrease the size of the image using constrained proportions, THEN expand the canvas as you need to.

But I'll probably release a wallpaper version of this soon so it can fit on everyone's monitor.

HyperCannon In reply to z-design [2009-05-03 08:05:23 +0000 UTC]

Yea it looks tons better now that Ive done that, I wasnt sure if that was allowed since its not really a wallpaper
