Description Her robot is even BIGGER than Azulas! I figured that if I say 'Giant Robot', I'd better deliver!

I like to think of Earthbending as more straightforward and blunt than the other bending arts, so I tried to reflect that in the bulky and angular design of this mech, vs the curves of Azula's.

That said, I now think Azula's mech looks less impressive than this one, so I might have to do a remake of hers .

Note the drill hand thingies...I figure you can bend a lot of earth with those . They're actually a friend's idea....not sure if he has a deviantart account, though...o_0.

I was thinking of doing something special with the robot's feet given Toph seeing through her feet and all, but in the end, I decided on giving her tank-tread-ish feet, so that she can zip around like the Dai Li do . Her hair's covering her eyes here, so she may look a bit funny. Also, this was drawn on an A4 piece of paper, so it's really hard to squeeze in details into her face o_0.

Do you guys think the robot's resemblance is there? The two ball thingies on either shoulder are supposed to resemble the big white fluffly things on Toph's headband. Then of course, I included the giant collar on the robot, and the shape of the robot's upper arms are supposed to emulate the wideness of Toph's sleeves. Like with my Azula mech, the mid-torso is cylindrical shaped. It's where the mech rotates its torso, and it's supposed to be the 'belt'.

Hope you like it, and if you do- please say so! It makes me a happy chappy to know my work's appreciated .

not to poke holes, but i note one problem.. can she still use earthbending to see since her feat aren't touching the ground. thats my own question.

Yes I do agree on that, but I think you could have shown that more clearly in your drawing. I am not trying to insult you or your amazing style, I am pointing out small flaws and little mistakes so that your art will become even better in the future.

Don't worry - I took no offence . I'll keep that in mind next time .

Mainly, this is just great.
But there are a few things that make this a slight bit less grand and magnificent: Because Toph sees through her feet, she can't pilot this robot since she would have no idea where she would be going.
Then, the arms are just a little too short. How to drill into anything when you can't reach it?
despite these two problems the drawing is truly grand, and it is clearly visible that it was made by the master.

Thanks . Let's pretend she can see with metalbending . Also, neither of her arms are in an outstretched pose at the moment, if you know what I mean . The upper part of the arm where it connects with the torso can rotate along another axis besides the one that's most visible here, so it's not too bad .

AHAHA! That's so awesome! XD The puff ball, collar, and belt inspiration definitely shows. Great atention to detail, and an all around pwntastic concept. Nice job. ^_^

(btw, "happy chappy" might be one of the cutest phrases ever. X3 )

Thanks! I actually put this up on ASN a looooooooong time ago - my first couple pieces upon joining were giant robots . If you flip back a couple pages in my gallery, you can see more .

'Happy Chappy' was something I came across in junior highschool from my literature teacher .

I was going to question how she sees, but then I realized that she's in a freakin' giant robot....I don't think her seeing is the biggest question....

It's like when we watched Spirited Away and after about two hours of the movie, my friend said, "There is no way that he could fly with that mouse."

And everyone looked at him and my dad said, "That's the FIRST thing you have a problem with here?"

And we all cracked up....

Yeah.

Then I found five dollars....

Yeah- how she can see in that thing was something I was also thinking about when I began designing it, but then I just went: "Screw it." and that's how she has what she does now .

I also want to find 5 dollars .

It's frikken awesome Grunt. What's that on her crotch though? Is it a large vacuum cleaner, or is she happy to see us? Is that how Giant Robots reproduce?

Are you implying that she sucks?

TArthurSmith In reply to ultrapunk [2007-02-02 23:39:33 +0000 UTC]

when you full view it's more apparent as a reference to Japanese armor/ yang protectors. But it's still kinda funny looking. Just my opinion.

TArthurSmith In reply to TArthurSmith [2007-02-02 23:40:59 +0000 UTC]

You know the reason why? The little circles on the sides of it imply it bends and twists in all sorts of ways, like a mechanical penis. If it were set in a rigid position with no way of raising, it'd never work as anything bu protective armor, or some sort of waste evac system.

I really like it! XD Toph's head is so small compared to the robot's body, but it's great. I like this!
