Valentines day is over.

In a time when nothing feels inspiring, fun or exciting, my friend from my weekly figure drawing class and I decided to come up with prompts to help tap out some creativity. We also decided that reference material would be prohibited as these drawings should be purely imaginative.

While I often include backgrounds in my work, they're usually more organic, so I found drawing a tower(s) pretty hard. To start with I drew out a two point perspective grid, and started sketching rectangles and cylinders until I got something resembling a composition I could work with and put my personal twist on top of. Throughout the process I found myself thinking a lot about what a tower was, and why people throughout time have built them... as an additional challenge I had decided that looking up the definition of a tower was also off limits.

In the end, I decided that towers are made to look up at, or to look down on. Having already committed to a two point perspective drawing where the line of vision is more or less on the same plane as my 'architecture', this felt like a disastrous case of poor design, so I decided to play into that rather than start over (again). What if the the Tower of Babel had succeeded and in reaching the heights of heaven, but found something very different instead?
