James was laughing. “What a lark! What a lark!” he chuckled to himself.

Suddenly, he was going faster and faster. He realized that he had no driver.

"WHAT SHALL I DO?!" James cried. "I CAN'T STOP! HEEEEEEEEELP!!!" James was going so fast, he nearly tipped off bends!
Meanwhile, Edward was racing to the rescue.

"We're coming!" called Edward.

Up ahead was Knapford. James screamed as he sailed through at a tremendous rate. The Fat Controller’s hat came off when James rushed by.
“JAAAAAAMES!!!” TFC shouted angrily.
Meanwhile, Edward was panting up behind with every ounce of steam he had. At last, he caught up with James!
“Edwaaard! HEEEEELP!!!” James cried.

"Steady now, maboi Edward," called Edward's driver.
The inspector stood on Edward's front holding a noose of rope in the crook of the shunter's pole. He was trying to slip it over James' buffer.
The engines swayed and lurched, when all at last...

"Got him!" he shouted the inspector. He pulled the noose tight.

Braking as gently as ever he could, Edward's driver checked the two engines' speed, and James' fireman scrambled across and took control.

James was most relieved when he started to slow down. He had nearly run out of water when he was a runaway.

"So the 'old iron' caught you after all," chuckled Edward.
"I'm sorry, Edward," whispered James. "Thank you SO much for saving me. You were absolutely splendid!"
"That's all right," replied Edward.

The two engines pulled into the station side by side. TFC was on the platform.

"A fine piece of work," he said. "James, you can rest, and then take your train. I'm proud of you, Edward. You shall go to the works and have your worn parts mended."
