Description Traveling to distant worlds can be exciting, and very dangerous. These two scientists discovered a new species of tree. It seems the tree also discovered it liked consuming humans. around the tree is a carpet of bone undigested waste, is a pool of "sap" and tentacle roots. The second group of scientists were much more careful cataloging this new tree.
Pen and ink.

This tree would convince many people to distrust the forest!

Oh I love this!  I love spooky woods!

Carniverous trees?  Why not?

Cool!

What am I saying!?

Better than the crap I am dreaming...play theme from The Tales from the Crypt here!

Dream huh?  Not nightmares?

You drawing gave me a nightmare about falling into a giant underground Pitcher Plant.  There were roots like your trees had.  A pair of rotting bobbing heads floating, and it stank, the inside of that pit.   I am glad I woke before it went farther!

.

See?  I told you I liked it!  I must have been thinking about it before I went to bed!

Or maybe it was something I ate...

Humm. Maybe it was something you ate. It has been awhile since I gave anybody a nightmare.
I find dreams and nightmares to be fascinating, and a great resource for our awake imaginations.
I used to keep a dream diary next to my bed, to catch any dreams or nightmares. What was awesome about those diary's, I was able to sketch out the mental visions I had.
Underground pitcher plants would be an interesting thing to sketch!

Hi

Maybe you are right, about the dinner and my nightmare.  I can't remember what I had for dinner , but I can remember those gnarly, twisting tree roots.

I was glad when I woke up from that nightmare, but now, I wish I could remember more of it.  It would make a great horror story.

.

A Pitcher Plants' the closest thing I can think of to discribe the scene.   Think a mass of tangled roots, darkness, deep water, and floating, desolving, rotting animal  remains, toss in a couple of bobbing human skulls.

.

I think underground Pitchers would be cool to sketch too.  I also think that old, enchanted trees and Haunted forest are fun to draw this time of year.

.

I bet that you had a bit of fun drawing these hungry trees!  I hope this drawing inspires more hungry flora!

This was indeed a fun drawing to create. Dreaming up monsters can be fun. It is funny to see how many people have also thought of fauna and flora in a different way.
I like thinking how evolution could take various plants or animals to the top of the food chain.
Recording those dreams can be so much fun. Having that record book next to the bed is important. We usually forget dreams fast after we wake up. Sketching the dreams or nightmares is so much fun. Sort of like a "foto" of the night vision!
I often imagine what life would be like on another world. Where humanity could be endangered, or something  as simple as a cat or dog would be the new ruler of that world. Fun!

Oh yeah!  I LOVE drawing monsters!  To much fun!    Was that right?  I did get the flora-plant part right?  Or not?

.

I have to agree  We have small caniverous plants...it doesn't take much to imagine a man sizes-or larger version.  Wasn't/isn't there a large carniverous plant in cryptozoology...I think so.

.

Me too, imagine different worlds.  We have peeks into yours with some of your artwork.     I wrote Cat' a long tale, but it isn't finished.  Something for her from me.  I must finish it.  I fear I never will.

The intense patterns and details give these trees a very ghoulish appearance.

Thanks! Those patterns were fun to create. I made several sketches of those trees before I was happy with them.

In some parts of the country, nothing good ever happens in the woods.

I am curious, why do you say that?  (I grew up in South Texas).

I had relatives who lived in the Paris Texas area, and there are woods just East and North of there, an area called Manchester.

I grew up and still live in Lubbock, and when one drives into the outskirts, there is little to see but horizon and sky. Go out aways out near Paris and it's woods with all kinds of seeming strange insects like chiggers and daddy long legged spiders as big as one's hand. The feeling, especially at night, is claustrophobic. I found the woods to be quite noisy.

My area of Texas is dry, climate wise. Semi arid. The shock to the system by being in the lower elevations of Texas with it's humidity makes me wonder how my ancestors, who were from the Paris area (Deport and Pattonville, specifically) survived in the days without air conditioning. I acknowledge they were made of more sturdy stock than my generation is.

My dad longed to return there. My mom, not so much.

My brother has moved to the San Marcos area, and has commented during the winter time he had forgotten how cold it gets up here when the sun goes down.

It was 24 years ago since I have been in the region. Maybe I would see iy differently if I went out there now, but it's not exactly on the top of my desired destinations list.

Thanks for the reply.

I understand now  Texas has insects alright   I however loved the bugs,(not chiggars, mosquitos, nor fireants!) and night noises when I could still hear them.     I live in Arkansas now, we have insects-but not in Texas, we do have damn ticks from Hell here though. (in Ark for about 25 years now!)

I grew up in and around San Antonio.  It was/is dry there too.

.

I went to San Marcos when I was a kic!  My school went to the park with the swimming pigs and glass bottom boats, we went to a reptile show!

.

I miss the Oak Trees, the Gulf, and the good stuff Texas has.  I love it here in Arkansas.   but there's a part of me that is still a Texas girl.

.

About Paris, I don't know if I have ever been there or not.  I will have to ask my parents.

Again, thank you kindly for the reply!  from tarp

The forest and woods can be a scarey place. Whats going on the the woods of west Texas?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

September-Oreo-Thief In reply to Zage56 [2013-09-20 04:06:25 +0000 UTC]

There are no woods in west Texas. This is approximately where I live. Flat terrain. Lots of sky.

I had relatives in Eastern Texas near Paris. There are woods there, and when one is not used to trees, one can feel surrounded and somewhat claustraphobic when one looks out the window and is not seeing horizon but trees.

Peaceful and quiet my ass. The nocturnal creatures are noisy.

Are you familiar with the movie The Town That dreaded Sundown? Texarkana is not too far from Paris, and they never caught the killer...

Cool! Undigested treasure could be a lure to bring the RP near the tree. That could be an interesting game!

amiwakawaiidesu [2013-08-29 01:22:17 +0000 UTC]

Although the description says that the trees are surrounded by undigested remains, the one recognizable skull behind the struggling fellows got me thinking that perhaps the skull isn't a real skull but actually a lure set there to draw in certain types of animals (such as scavengers, or these overly curious humans).

Indeed, these trees have a habit of claiming items as bait for future meals.
