History:

Jupiter is second of the new larger Generation of Starfleet ships (first Been Sovereign class), although it was designed for long range (deep space) exploration, Jupiter is very efficent and dangerous ship in combat. Jupiter show its dangerous side during Dominion war, two ships were unfortunatley destroyed however class played very important role in Defense in battle of Andoria where four of this ships and their escorts manage to hold Dominion fleet enough for Starfleet reinforcements to arrive. Class was upgraded several times during next few years and many new technologies that Voyager bring from Delta quadrant were installed in it including the re-engineered Borg Transwarp.

Ship suprised once again in 2385 when one ship Centauri manage to held on its own against Borg cube. Class was very liked by its crews for its great durability and capabilities.

Although production of Sovereign class ships is in full swing, Jupiter remains in production with 3 to 4 ship per year. Because of its great combination of exploration and combat capabilities it will remain in service well into the twenty fifth century.
