History:

Raider was created as cheap alternative to Defiant, Valiant and other types of escorts already in active service. It was designed for less dangerous zones, as a patrol ship. While this class was highly capable in protecting other ships, chasing pirates and surveying it was not on the same level with mentioned escort classes, still it posses enough firepower to engage enemy in combat.

Twenty four ships were built before class was cancelled, these ships were deployed on more peacful parts of Federation. Unlike most of other escorts, Raider can land on planet surface.
