How do you add the grid for latitude and longitude lines?

I used the pen tool on the very top layer and used a globe as reference. I will remake this tutorial sometime soon

Alright thanks. That's what I did for my last map, but I was probing for an easier way

I started using inkscape, so I guess it's time for a topographic map

I use some new techniques, I may make another tutorial based on my new style within the next few months
I'd be happy to see more topographic maps as they're my favourite style

Any sites you recommend for acquiring topographic source maps? I checked Wikimedia commons but not much is there I feel.

It's also important to make sure that the maps you use to trace from are all of the same projection. If not, these parts over here will line up just fine, but not those parts over there. It can get very frustrating.

indeed! yes yes yes a thousand times over, I've tried explaining a similar problem to someone who didn't understand how projections could differ and why her maps were fundamentally different even when overlaying and shrinking them

Depends what sort of work you want to do with it; if you want to create anything vector-based I'd recommend videos on programs like Illustrator since it's the same basic concept. However I am currently working on creating a few videos with the MapsAndFlags admin team on cartography and vexillology. There are a ton of tutorials for maps on Inkscape on AlternateHistory.com if you would like a link I can provide one

Don't listen to this madman! Inkscape isn't the best! GIMP is the best! Don't listen to the 3/4s of people who'd argue against me!

CoryCA In reply to Spiritswriter123 [2016-06-30 12:46:45 +0000 UTC]

GIMP is great for raster images, but completely sucks for vector drawings.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Spiritswriter123 In reply to CoryCA [2016-06-30 16:44:59 +0000 UTC]

well, it's true (mostly because GIMP doesn't do Vector at all )
Now get your heresy out of here
