All you have to do is use this code inside of your custom box, which is almost the same as the mini box code, except it includes the custom box background code inside of it, which allows the little boxes to have a background of their own. (that's a mouthful)
Basically this is the code for the little box with a background. XD

Then you just put what you want written in the box in the part where it says 'ALL TEXT GOES HERE'.
Put the finished code in a custom box on your profile and you're done

The codes are ALL offered for you. Look in the description of this art and look for the code. Copy and paste that into a word document. Find a custom box background (just search it on deviantART). Right click the image and click copy image url. Put that in the spot of the code for the url.
Then put your text where it tells you to.
Put that in a custom box on your PROFILE.
And you're done.
That's the simplest way to explain it. If you can't grasp that then I give up.

awesome! one last question (I'm no good with css) does this code go inside the custom box background code (where the text is/should be if you don't have a little box)?

The code I have above is only for the little box, so it doesn't include the main background for the custom box. Any text you want outside of the box has to go before or after the code that's in the description~ For example, here's the code you would use if you wanted a custom box background, and a mini box with a background (also gosh i wish there was another name for the little boxes LOL) :
