Description
You people have no idea how long I've been wanting to draw this picture. Goemon Ishikawa is a lengendary theif from Edo Japan, compared with Robin Hood on many accounts (except Goemon was said to be a real person). Some say he was a former samurai, an ex ninja, or both, but all agree that he was a leader of a band of chivilrous theives who protected the poor folk from the greedy government (no doubt Yoshimitsu from soul calibur is based of him at least somewhat). Goemon is also the subject of much popular Japanese culture; many Kabuki plays revolve around him, and he even has his own video game series! Ganbare Goemon (or Mystical Ninja over here) is a long running platformer (still going since the NES) by Konami that takes a comical look at his adventures in fantasy Edo Japan, and it has been a great sorce of inspiration for me. Sure, I've drawn the cartoony video game goemon before, but I've always wanted to draw his historical and theatrical rendition. I have even tied him in with my main fantasy series, The Intrepids!Yes, Goemon Ishikawa is the son of the samurai, Goeyoshi Ishikawa in The Intrepids, and his mother is most likely the ninja Ume Boshi. I have been planning this for awhile you see, since Goemon has the honor of being one of the main characters in the next gen Intrepids series (see my picture called Shantae Ondine for details). He will be teleported to safety just before his historical point of death (boiling in oil after failing to assassinate Hideoyoshi Toyotomi, by the way), to preserve line of Goeyoshi, and live without aging in Neuron untill the new Intrepids series actually starts. Or maybe he just gets sent forward in time. I'm not sure.
One point for me to work on was his hair. Goemon is supposed to have a big puffy hairdoo, and it's even kinda spikey in mystical ninja, as well as being two colored. I decided to not only go with the two colored hair, I thought up an upper hair design that's kinda in the middle, kind of akin to Guile from Street fighter's hair. The clothing I got from an Ukyo ai print of goemon that I really like, and was actually the inspiration for my last Goeyoshi picture (entitled "Winter Reflections-Ishikawa"). I have him here in his trademark pose, in his most famous scene, running from gaurds on the rooftops of Kyoto, and delivering his famous line, "A magnificent view! A magnificent view! For this view of spring, a million dollars would be too low a price, too low a price!"

Very nice. I've always loved the Ganbare Goemon series of games just because of how crazy they are.
He bears a good resemblance to Goemon Impact on first glance!
Maybe I should watch one of the Kabuki Plays that the character is based off one day...
As I said before, Very nice.

It's a neat picture... but the hand in back does look extrordinarily wrong, and it distracts from the picture. Quite a bit. Mr. Randyman touched upon the finer points of why, so I'll spare you having to read it twice. The whole picture looks more like a cartoon than it looks like an anime character, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. You're getting better at coloring with every picture.
I won't attach an arbitrary numeric value to the drawing, so I'll just say good job.

Hey at least nobody's complaining about the hand in front (to me, that's the one that counts).
Yeah, I'm trying to find that nice middle path between American cartoons/comics and anime/manga. I don't quite agree with the with all the styles of other people who do anime and manga these days, but then again, as you know, I don't quite agree with all the American stype styles either.
It's almost like I'm gonna emerge as some kind of new Buddha if I do everything right.

Very nice. I like it, except that the back hand looks disfigured. Possibly because you have it backwards, or if you meant to have the palm facing you, then you're hyperextending/over-rotating the elbow joint. It doesn't look right, too far out. try going into that pose yourself and you'll see that the elbow just doesn't bend that way (and flexibility has nothing to do with it, so don't give me that crap).
Nice gridwork and folding effects on the clothes, and the background is really nice too, kinda reminds me of when Naruto enters the scene in the anime. you hear the drums going, then "SOOYA!"
face is nice. I like the two-toed ninja shoes.
overall, I like it, but that elbow continues to bug me.
8/10

Wow, somebody gave me an ACTUAL comment, instead of a "good pic ya LOL"!
Yeah, the hand is a little bothersome. It's actually supposed to be turned around and extended a little bit further back, but.... I had already drawn the hand. I don't like redrawing hands.
I'm glad you mentioned that Naruto scene. Now you (and hopefully other people) know where it's from (Goemon, that is)!

Goeyoshi... I remember him. Another well drawn piece, Zargon. You've vastly improved on the backgrounds over the years.

What the Hell? You cannot possibly remember him! You're a fool for thinking that you do!
