Papyrus handling this well.
This is really only half of the conversation, I hate splitting a scene in half like this but there was just no way I could fit the whole thing into one comic feasibly. So the next one will pick up right from here. The conversation is really meant to be taken as a whole, but this was just the most naturally place to break it in half when I was going through it. What can you do.
Did most of this on my laptop, so some things might look a little off. Not sure how long the next one will take... we'll see. Hopefully not too long...

I wouldn't call anybody on expert on themselves and their own feelings, not even Paps with his dead-on ability to read how other people feel.
But uh yeah, this is a whole buncha nothin. In fact, it's so much nothing that it feels like an exact opposite of an "orgy of evidence": it's an Orgy of Nothing! And it aint right and Paps (somehow) is aware of it. Kudos.

Poor paps ;; I'd be pretty upset too. Think Pap has reached his limit- he was so sure he'd finally have everything figured out, that his existence would make sense- but nothing. There's nothing here. The weight of it all must be suffocating.

You're correct except for one minor detail, Papyrus. You don't have all the pieces. The thing that binds all of it together is still missing, lost to a void and taken the memories with him. If you just had that last piece...
After all Papyrus went through in the lab, he's finally gotten his revenge on those awful surroundings, even if he doesn't know it.

I dont know why, but when papyrus says "what do all of these litle pieces mean?"
It kinda makes me pretty sad... I mean look at how much hes been through, and the fact that he keeps trying to rember, and he cant, and even though he trying so hard to.. And hes been lookin for this,basically(not really though) his entire life, and it just doesn't make any sense to him...
It just makes feel so bad for him..
And if i could... I would give him a hug.

Just a theory, but what if Sans remembered/figured it out, but is keeping it from Papyrus so he doesn't freak out or think he's dumb? Think about it: the Sans in But I suppose you've seen it all before in Panel 9 looks soulless/like he's in shock, almost as if he had a realization. I can hear you saying, "That doesn't prove anything!", but hear me out. In the very first part, Best not to look into it , Sans seems to change the subject once Papyrus starts thinking about it. In addition to this, he says that, "some things are better off forgotten". This implies that Sans KNOWS what happened in their past, and Papyrus does not. It's a silly theory, but it could be possible.

god the way you write characters and how they're affected by their pasts ( even when they don't remember ) is just soOOO GOOD. one of my favorite things about this comic is how well you portray the psychological cause and affect that goes into how people actually function. as a writer it's also really inspiring to me and makes me think about my own characters. so hey good job

In all honesty? I almost think it's more poignant having the scene end right here. Having that chilling line as the two quietly accept that they don't know and possibly never will is. . . powerful, I think.
Not every question we have about ourselves will have a satisfying answer, or sometimes, any answer at all. There's simply no way to know some things, and our ability to accept that we can't know is, in my opinion, a beautiful, important part of being who we are.
But, of course, I wouldn't ask you to rewrite or remove things for little old me. I came for the story you want to tell, and I'll stick around for it too.
