Spoilers: it does. Another benefit to doing these out of order! I totally referenced the final battle in Earthbound too, score.

This would probably be the first time they've seriously fought about something or raised their voices at each other. They're scared and in pain and aren't really handling this very well. No one is happy with this.
(Gaster isn't handling it very well either, not that he's going to admit it)

If you really want to feel bad, a lot of their conversation still applies if they were talking about you the Player, haha.

There aren't really very many good English onomatopoeias for really deep long gasps, that's what the first GGGHHHH noise is meant to be. Hopefully that came across? Oh well.

Wouldn't it've been easier if Gaster just took off their arms, drilled the plates into them, then put their arms back on?

zarla In reply to Poopyruns99 [2016-03-07 02:59:40 +0000 UTC]

He did it the way he did to prove to himself that he could keep going even when they were screaming in pain, so taking their arms off would've defeated the point. |D

No, Zarla confirmed sometime on their Tumblr that skeletons still feel what happens to their body parts even if they aren't attached to the main body. It keeps skellies from being woefully reckless and dropping their legs into boiling water and stuff like that. So if that happened it would have been just as bad, if not worse because the bros wouldn't be able to move their arms or struggle or anything.

Wait, it would probably be easier for Gaster... less blue magic needed to keep the arm from moving. So bad for babies, good for doctor?

Exactly my point.

It'd be easier for Gaster. So why didn't he just do that?

He's testing his own resolve. That he has the strength to go through with the experiments, do everything he has to do. He's distancing himself, though it's not working as well as he thought it would.

I like that you can see Gaster shaking just a little bit, and then there's his saying that only part of him is curious as though the rest of him is horrified by what he's done. These comics are brilliant keep up the good work! I enjoy reading these.

Okay, about the 3rd or 4th time reading through this, only now do I notice this.

Top panel, Gaster is SMOKING! I guess he needs it, also, as previously said, lack of lungs... And that's where the burn hole in the picture came from, gah how did I miss this?

TheShapeshifter100 In reply to ??? [2016-03-06 17:29:06 +0000 UTC]

Here's some musings.

I started to think that it would make sense for Gaster to somehow anaesthetise the skelebros (in terms of the logic of the character, it would make the story less interesting), then I realised why he wouldn't do that.
Skeletons lack blood vessels (well, easy to access ones, not sure on bone marrow) and lungs, making knocking them pretty tricky.

Yeah, there wasn't really a point to this, just some musings.

Technically I think their bodies would be have a magic flow instead of blood flow since they are technically monsters...I think.....

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheShapeshifter100 In reply to AnnaKitty [2016-03-06 18:17:42 +0000 UTC]

That would make sense, don't have much in the way of physical matter, but would imagine it would make anaesthetising difficult, where would you put it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AnnaKitty In reply to TheShapeshifter100 [2016-03-07 21:38:31 +0000 UTC]

Into the magic flow? Monsters must have some form of magic that can numb you enough for the bad stuff to be healed without you having to be in constant pain meanwhile.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheShapeshifter100 In reply to AnnaKitty [2016-03-07 21:44:29 +0000 UTC]

That is a fair point. I guess that would be linked to the healing ability itself, which Gaster admits he's losing, although it might be as bad in this one as it will be the chronologically future comic strip.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AnnaKitty In reply to TheShapeshifter100 [2016-03-13 14:25:51 +0000 UTC]

Maybe he just doesn't have any way to make it painless since he is losing his own healing magic and the two are supposed to stay a secret so he can't bring in anyone else to help out.

Can someone help me pick up the few remains of my shattered heart?
I think you nailed Papyrus' personality in the way that he still believes Gaster will be good (Sorry Paps that's not gonna happen)
And that panic attack oh my god, makes me want to shatter the fourth wall to give him a hug DX
AND how Sans is more aggressive about the situation (jfc that argument)
AAAAANNNDD how the Gastard (see what I did there huehuehue) was shaking
MY HEART CAN'T HANDLE THIS *explodes*

Cattamau In reply to ??? [2016-03-06 15:01:20 +0000 UTC]

To me it feels like they're all having their own conflict.

To me, Papyrus is sticking with his motives and morals. He thinks there's good in everyone and everything. When he realizes that Gaster is not a good man, he has a panic attack on the spot.

Sans seems more...aggressive. He appears to resent Gaster and he just wants the torment to stop. He just wants his brother and himself to be free.

Faster can be shown shaking in the first panel, indicating that he feels some sort of regret or guilt. This can possibly be used by Zarla later on.

That he wasn't that cruel.
I'm on the "push gaster into the core" boat now.

Also, you absolutely NAILED papyrus' personality.
