Description
Two pieces! Three days apart! It's a miracle, or something.Rest assured that I am continuing to work on real art. Though I don't think I do nearly as good of a job as my computer does.
This render (and the last one ) both are the fault of my computer science class; not because we do fractal art, but because I bring my laptop and the professor is just going over stuff I already know (I read ahead).
I think this guy looks a little furry, don't you? Not sure how exactly that happened. This is supposedly a shot of a dragon's head and part of the neck. The weird extra stuff on the right is either a few thousands horns or a mane that wants to stick up. For whatever reason.
I'm really happy with the colors on this one! I think it came out with a very cool, watery feel. I don't know why I never do more hot colors in my art; it just doesn't appeal to me as much. I can never find colors that feel right to me.
This is the first render I've done that I didn't take to GIMP before posting. Enjoy it in all of its unaltered goodness!
Warning: Huge file. I had the computer render this at 2732 x 1536 - four times the size of the other two. That way it looks extra detailed at the intended resolution of 1366 x 768! ^..^

Wow! Would make an amazing background for something. I could just imagine a bird swooping down those lines...

I'm glad you found this, then. I think it looks really good as a background too.

Thank you! The colors were probably my favorite part to do of the whole thing.

omgoshh!! tahts soo amazing!! [[sorry im so late;;must notve gotten the message or sumthin]] but it looks like that first big swirl is like a dragonz wing like curving, and then the other swirl is its other wing, and where they meet is like its head i love it!!! ish so awesome!!!

And thank you very much. I'm glad you like it.

Thank you very much. I don't know how much credit I can take for the colors and lighting in this, though... My computer did most of it. XD Glad you like it, though.

Lovely! I have a fondness for fractal art, and I like how you try to make your fractal flames form a dragon.
This one definitely makes me think of a water dragon. Like a dragon was formed from water itself, then he turns his head around and as he does so part of his watery body forms a wave that returns to the ocean from which he was born.
Very inspiring.
Colors definitely look nice together, reinforcing the water concept.
As for your dilemma with color, I recommend trying different color combinations. Try something unusual, like using blues, cool purples, and some cool reds; or reds, warm purples, and warm blues. Go ahead research color theory and you may learn something about color that you could apply to your art (btw, I'll be writing an essay about color and theory soon and I'll upload it as a deviation too; hopefully that will help! )

It's not easy, let me tell you. XD Perhaps if I spent more time doing fractal art, I'd learn what it takes to make dragons come out of the flames easier... but I don't really know the trick yet.
I agree about the water dragon thing, though I'm not a fan of elemental dragons so I kind of tried to avoid that. It's interesting how well this one would fit into that category though!
Coloring in Apophysis doesn't work quite that way... There's bunches of pre-set color strips, or I can import colors from another image on my computer. I can't, for example, put together a color strip manually. I really wish I could.
Another issue with color is figuring out what part of the color strip applies to what part of the flames. There's a great deal of tweaking around involved there...

Oh, no, I meant drawings and paintings. The last paragraph has nothing to do with Apophysis.. now I realize that paragraph was really retarded since you were talking about fractals. :\

Hee, I appreciate the coloring advice, then. Colors are a little tricky for me still because I haven't done a lot of colored art yet... Colors are rather hit-and-miss for me. I usually spend quite a while deciding which colors I want to use when I begin coloring a drawing...

Well, it's supposed to be a dragon. In actuality, it's a fractal flame.
Thanks. I really like how it looks too.

Holy cow! How long did that take to render?

Zeimyth In reply to G220 [2009-09-10 04:30:37 +0000 UTC]
Hee, I'm glad. Recognition is difficult to achieve.
Um, because of the increased resolution and the fact that I had it render at 400 (to compare, Bursting Forth was 250 and Soar was 200), it took about an hour and 10 minutes. But my lappy is slow.

G220 In reply to Zeimyth [2009-09-10 04:33:21 +0000 UTC]
Wow, that's a long render time. I love how it turned out though! I downloaded the full size and it's now my desktop background.
π: 0 β©: 1
Zeimyth In reply to G220 [2009-09-10 04:37:17 +0000 UTC]
Not as long as Soar. Since I zoomed way in for that one, the render time was ridiculous. I don't even remember how long it was, but lots longer than this one for sure.
Hee, it's my background too. That's why I do them at this resolution. I think it makes the best background of all the renders I've done so far.

It doesn't fit my screen too well, but I just set it too 100% size and it still makes a very colorful and curvy background.

G220 In reply to Zeimyth [2009-09-11 01:42:57 +0000 UTC]
It's zoomed in right near the center, so there's a big curve that goes from the top left around to the bottom right. It looks nice none-the-less!

Zeimyth In reply to G220 [2009-09-16 19:20:56 +0000 UTC]
Makes sense. The computer would naturally do the best job it could to fit the picture to your screen, and aligning to center seems like a good way to do that.
At least you don't loose too much of the good stuff.

I feel like it needs wings spread out behind it as if it's coming forward into a dive... But that's just me. Looks really cool - like the colours.

Zeimyth In reply to OceansPhoenix [2009-09-10 04:31:38 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, well, I couldn't do anything about wings. Fractals are picky that way. XD Doing something like shrinking the horns/mane would also, say, make the neck a lot thinner. Weird stuff.
Besides, I already have two other fractals that do that.
