Description Well, I crammed to get this drawing done before Sunday, and it didn't quite work, because it's 2 in the morning right now. But hey, I got it done, yay!

This is [link] but digital and colored. To be honest, I wasn't sure if I was going to do anything at all with this drawing, but I guess I did. Glad that I did; I kinda like how it turned out.

And, look! She actually has something kinda identifying on her! Yay random green stripes. O.O And a blue muzzle. I wanted to give her some green on the trailing end of her wing, but it wasn't going to work very well. Not with a mouse. >.<

Oh, yeah, as you can tell I look a drastically different approach to this drawing in terms of shading and stuff. It's actually somewhat cel-shaded. I've never tried that before. O.O To be honest, I think I did a kinda lousy job on it, but hey...

Well, this will be either the last or second to last deviation you see from me for a very, very long time (I might submit a progress reel of this one, if I get the time to). Confused? Then you must not have read my journal yet.

This took 20 hours, maybe, over the course of 6 days.

Comments appreciated! Though odds are you won't get a reply, so thanks in advance for everything.

Thank you so much! Yeah, I rather like smooth-looking dragons. Well... I like all flavors of dragons, be they scaled, smooth, feathered, or furred. Smooth-hide dragons are much easier to draw, that's for sure!

I think one of the reasons this looks so sleek is because I was going for a cell-shaded look, so the shading is very abrupt.

Thank you again for the comment and the .

This one is really neat! I like how the foreground is really clear and lined, and the background is less focused. The anatomy of the dragon is really good too. It looks great!

Ooh, now you're getting back into my old stuff. XD

This is still one of my favorites, I'm still not sure how I managed to do it all with just a mouse. I like how the coloring on the dragon worked out. I've really moved away from this style, though; I try to make my drawings more realistic now and leave out the lines. But looking at this drawing makes me want to try doing more simple, almost-cartoonish drawings instead; they can look pretty good, too. XD

I'm glad you think the anatomy looks good! It's never been one of my strong points.

Like I mentioned on the process picture, I think it turned out well, too.
Working in grayscale like that sometimes feels like cheating. It's a lot of fun, though.

I think you have overdone yourself with this picture- it looks so smooth and impressing- I really love it.
Especially the color of the dragon the darker blue of the snout goes really well with the lighter blue... and I like the stones, but you already know that
Oh.. and the lighting is impressing as well- It's a really, really lovely picture

Well thank you! I really like the way it came out in the end... Though I wish I could have done even more. I think I got lazy with some details because GIMP was being slower (I worked with a huuuge file O.O), and also because I felt I was running out of time. Not to mention that some other details would have been impossible without a tablet.

I'm really glad you like how the colors turned out. That took a lot of work. XD I wanted to do the coloring with filtered layers, but they were being annoying and it took me a long time to figure out what setting to have all of my layers on.

Again, thank you.

Hmmm... I'm not sure if I should still answer your comments, but I guess I will- you still can delete them when you return (yeah for more work )

Yeah- but I already think this is a huge step into a new era of drawing.. you improve really fast!

A good coloring always need its time, but the outcome will be much better if you just rush with it- as you have proofed here

No problem

I really like how she came out! The coloring really looks neat and gives her a unique look.

Yeah, the coloring does kind of work somehow. I really didn't expect the whole piece to turn out the way it did, but I'm pleased with the effect. I just wish I knew what I did to make it happen.

And she's blue! I'm sure you don't mind that fact. XD

That looks so cool!!! I love the coloring, of course, since I love blue....and the background where it's all kinda faded looks awesome....man, you're better at coloring than I am, XD Great job!!

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. The coloring... Well, I'm happy with how it turned out, though I must admit that it was kind of cheated on this drawing. I drew the whole picture in black and white first and then put color-filtering layers over the grayscale. So I didn't really color it in the conventional way. XD

Hee, thank you! I felt like I could have done a bit more with the shading, but I was satisfied with it still. And yeah, I like the colors too. Usually I just pick them randomly, but somehow these ones felt right.

Zeimyth In reply to Aurora-Silver [2010-02-21 21:55:16 +0000 UTC]

Aw, it's not that great really. XD I suppose I have the excuse of this being my first time doing cel-shading. It's no where near as good as yours, though.

I'm glad you liked the stones. I thought they were too lopsided and fake-looking, but people seem to like them... XD

Thanks for the comment!
