Description EDIT:
1. I know I twisted her pose too much, and her right leg looks like it's broken. :"D But this is not a pose tutorial, so focus on the coloring and other things, ok? ^^/

2. I made a little mistake while typing: On the last picture before Step3, I said 'put them all in one layer'. It should be 'put them all in one folder' there.

And thank you all for the support. ^^/

--------
Warning: Super duper giant file. OTL

As I was asked by some people to make some kind of tutorials. So this is one way of coloring I can show you.

I don't want to make too many deviations at a time so, please be patient with this long ass 'Step by step'.OTL

And here is the bigger finished version of the picture:

I hope it helps somehow. ;n;a

I will try working on some other styles' step by step, if there are requests in the future. /o/

This is very helpful. Thank you for making it! Also, I second a lineart tutorial. There ARE some things to lineart that I just cannot figure out (making my lines look less 'digital' for one. everyone seems to be able to do that but me!)

That is pretty awesome
I have a couple of questions though, if that's okay.
Do your linarts usually take a long time?
Also, Is this how you always do things, or do you ever use the vecor-tools in SAI for the linearts?

Your pictures always look very nice and neat, so I just felt I had to ask ^^

ZenithOmocha In reply to Xertefan [2013-04-24 19:45:31 +0000 UTC]

Hi there, thank you and, the time depends on the detail levels. a If it's very detailed it can take like forever for me to finish linearting.
And yes, I use vector tool too, when I need precise lines, like curves or straight lines.

I hope these helps. <3

just a question, I do not understand the make a new layer and do some highlights ;_; do you do them with white with brush or...? and I did my lineart with black lines, and when I put it in multiply it didn't change the color I don't know If I did something wrong ;_; I did no have the same gorgeous result as you T_T

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ZenithOmocha In reply to norniir [2013-03-21 08:43:51 +0000 UTC]

I think I explained it clearly about the highlight parts (Both for the other parts' and for the eyes), which tools, which colors and which type of layers to use.
About the lines, that's why you have to recolor your lines with other colors. Multiply mode kinda drops the color of one layer down to the layers underneath. So it's normal that black + anyother color = black. C:

Both steps you asked about have been explained very clearly right in the tutorial. I think you just need to read everything more carefully.
Good luck! <3

Omocha-san, who's your inspiration for your drawing style?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ZenithOmocha In reply to Kyrokyt [2013-02-19 19:53:13 +0000 UTC]

Uhm, my style is influenced by many, hence why I kinda have many styles. Basically I just learn from here and there, anything I find interesting and good to learn to build up my own 'style'.

I do have favourite artists though, actually too many to list, and they're all my inspiration. XD

I hope this answer makes sense lol. XD;

May I ask how you added the thin, diagonal lines to the picture in Photoshop?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ZenithOmocha In reply to Masa-Chan5320 [2013-01-07 13:38:58 +0000 UTC]

You mean the textures on her clothes? If that's it, I actually used SAI's texture mode for the layers, I didn't use Photoshop for it.
But if you want to use Photoshop, you can find some jeans texture on the internet and add it on by using Photoshop's layer mode (normally overlay/multiply) and adjust the texture itself to fit your desire.
I hope it helps somehow.

Masa-Chan5320 In reply to ZenithOmocha [2013-01-07 13:52:04 +0000 UTC]

Oh I see! So, how do you do it in Sai? if it's not too much trouble

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ZenithOmocha In reply to Masa-Chan5320 [2013-01-07 14:42:59 +0000 UTC]

I think you can find the answer in some previous comments- Here it is~ *copy and pastes*
'The jean material was added with the layer's Texture feature. C: Well not every SAI has that defaultly though, you'll have to install the texture to use it.'
On how to install SAI texture, I think you can look it up from the DA, or google- I'm not sure how either, since my SAI pack had the textures itself when I installed it.

Thank you for the great tutorial ^^ I have some (stupid) questions though XD
Why do we need to lock the opacity, and what is the difference between Multiply, Saturation and normal layer? Also what did you do to make her shirt and shorts looked like jean material?
And my SAI has error font exactly like yours LOL Btw I would love to see your soft shading tutorial ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ZenithOmocha In reply to PrincessMensa [2012-12-14 05:11:03 +0000 UTC]

Hi there, thank you for liking the tutorial. C: I'll be thinking of making a soft shading one. My styles are changing quite a lot so I'm waiting till I can settle them down a bit 1st. ^_^

For your questions:
1. Locking opacity helps you color just in the colored zone of a layer. You won't have to worry that the colors are out of your wanted zone, just move your hand freely. I suggest that you try it out to see the difference of locking and not locking.

2. Multiply mode kinda 'drop' the shade of the color(s) on its layer to the downer layer(s). Best used for adding shade, of course. And Saturation mode kinda add highlights of the colors. You'd better try out to see too. Try switching modes of a layer from this to that to see the differences, you'll figure it out.

3. The jean material was added with the layer's Texture feature. C: Well not every SAI has that defaultly though, you'll have to install the texture to use it. You can use a stock of jean texture over the layer instead, with Overlay mode.

Thanks for posting this dear! For the 1st Basic Shade, what color do you use? Just a grey? And also, for your lineart do you have line variance? Like some parts are thicker than others?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ZenithOmocha In reply to darkbubblepop09 [2012-11-20 18:45:40 +0000 UTC]

Hi! You're welcome. C:
- For the 1st basic shade, the color can be any random color of your choice (because you're gonna recolor it later anyway). But best colors to be chosen are kinda grayish tone of colors (grayish blue/purple/brown are normally my choice)
- For the lineart, yes, I have line variance. It depends on my pen pressure, or if I want a part to be especially thicker, I do restroke it till I please. c:
