Another one of my Christmas presents! This is for *CasablancaStudios , for her horse Belle'Ami [link] and her rider Kaleigh Summers.

STORY TIME! It's told from Aubrie's point of view. (yes, all lesson pics will either have a story, or you can RP with me for the story.)

All was quiet in the winter chill of the stable. I sat on a stack of hay bales in between two stall doors, listening carefully to the mares munching their hay and the rustling sound of the cats scuffling in the feed room. I loved winter at the stable, especially in the morning, before I had to ride anyone. I usually got there early to feed on weekends, and I cherished those Saturday mornings with the scent of hay in my hair and the hot breath of the horses on my neck.

I brushed a strand of curly red hair out of my face, sighing. There was close to no one at the barn yet, except for Josh and Dani. They liked to get there early as well, so they could work the horses they needed to work and then relax in the lounge. Dani especially, since she usually had a couple lessons scattered throughout the day. Today, it was a little girl down the road coming for her first ride on Candy, a teenager who hated horses but whose mom made him ride, and Kaleigh Summers, a good friend of Dani's from Castle Cove Stables. She had been offered a free lesson slot for the Christmas season, and she was bringing one of the mares later on for a dressage lesson. She wasn't expected for another twenty minutes, however, so I had some time before I had to do anything.

As I reclined back against Rita's stall, relaxing, I heard the barn door crash open. Josh was probably done working Rayne, and from the sound of it, he was not happy. I giggled to myself quietly, and stood up to take Rayne and cross-tie her. Josh didn't need any more frustration, it appeared, and I needed something to do.

"I take it she was a brat, huh?" I asked, laughing. Josh rolled his eyes.

"She can't break from the gate at all, she refuses to switch her leads, she feels like she's falling over in front, AND she bucked me off! TWICE!" he thundered, disappearing into the tack room to hang up his helmet and goggles.

I laughed again. "Josh, relax, she's only just starting training. I've seen her run. She's fast, just reluctant. Why don't you let Lu take her next time? You're going to give yourself an aneurism over this horse!" I looked at Rayne, grinning, and slid her bridle off. The look on her face was hilarious, as if she had some trick up her sleeve. I haltered her and clipped the cross ties to the halter. "Maybe you two just aren't a good match."

Josh chuckled, sarcastically. He peeked his head out of the tack room doorway, a very unamused look on his face. Before he could say anything else, the sound of snow crunching under car tires rang across the parking lot. I decided to leave Josh to untack the mare, and dashed out to the parking lot to meet Kaleigh and help her with her horse. Within minutes, we had Kaleigh's mare, Ami, out of the trailer and in the barn, ready to be tacked up.

Half an hour later, I stood in the Showplex, leaning on the whitewashed boards bordering the arena and watching Kaleigh's lesson. I figured I might be able to pick up a thing or two about her riding. Ami was a beautiful mover, even though she was a little feisty. Kaleigh handled her well, and had an amazing sense of what the animal beneath her was doing. As she cantered past me, I tuned in to what Dani was telling her. "She looks good and collected, but she's a bit stiff around your corners. Let's bring her down into a trot and ask her to do a nice big circle at E." Kaleigh did what she said, and immediately the mare cocked her ear back and yielded her shoulder. She may be a fresh mare, but she was very smart, and talented as well. Pebble Creek had found out that they were to be a receiving a half-sibling of Ami in the spring foaling season, and now that I had seen her in action I was even more excited than before.

At the end of the lesson, I walked back to take a seat on the bleachers. It was warmer in the heated arena, and I didn't want to go to the lounge and have to deal with Josh, so I sat back against the cold metal and started to braid my nearly waist-length red hair. Kaleigh dismounted Ami across the arena, and after Dani left the arena to greet her next student, she led Ami over to me. I looked up from my phone, smiling at her. I had always liked Kaleigh. She attended most of the hunter shows we did, and she would come to our trailer to chat with Dani and Melinda, so she knew who I was and we had talked a few times.

"I saw you watching my lesson. What do you think?" she asked, smiling. She ran her fingers through her long, straight brown hair to loosen the knots that had formed during her ride. I thought that a little weird, Kaleigh didn't really straighten her hair a lot as far as I knew.

"She's gorgeous! It's so fitting that Athan Ambar is her grandsire, she reminds me of him." I returned. She smiled at me again. I liked Kaleigh for that; she always had a smile on her face.

"So do I, you can definitely tell who she's related to. You excited for her little sister or brother?"

"Of course! Why wouldn't I be? I can hardly wait another day!" I giggled. She reached over and squeezed my shoulder.

"Well, it was good seeing you, Aubrie. Tell Melinda I said hi."

I smiled back at her. 'Thanks, I will. Take care!"
