Commentary: Definitely spent too much time on this, which is the curse of the perfectionist drive for ya I guess. Granted, I suppose this did turned out rather well. Had some pretty interesting days as I drew this. Mostly a jagged headspace through much of it, but I’m better since/as I finished the piece. I do think this mental state found projection here in the composition. As is often the case, art presents itself as a strange window into the psyche.

In this case, a sense of aimless dread relieved by the presence of another, an interpersonal sublimation — or simply put, mutual acknowledgment. One may generally understand Asuka and Shinji in that way, whether it be as archetypes or particulars. Here, they are the base of the concept.
