Your (Counter) Self — A Step Forth.

Most people should have at least one such experienced: Reaching the one, rather critical point in a challenging activity where it feels as though one couldn’t possibly go on, that one more lap, one more written or read page, one more hour, one more of anything could crush us and as such strikes one as beyond action - perhaps impossible. Yet precisely at this moment something of high interest occurs: When shrouded in said miasma of uncertainty and impossibility, something counter to this state emerges from the psyche and distinctly presents itself as a second moment, a reflex and reflection of the self. A vivid final impetus takes place driving the Ego’s conviction to the finish - that is, possibility itself. We take a brave step forth toward that seeming infinity with one of our own.

Using Freud we have this: The Ego, finding itself exhausted, is reactivated by the Super-ego’s influence, assisting it through the end. This final push, however, is achieved by the Ego’s channeling of the Id’s mental energy. Essentially, three mental moments (one for each: Ego, Super-Ego, Id) related to one mental antagonism or reflection: The Initial Self and the Counter Self. The synthesis would then be the resolve obtained from the combination of these two. (That’s Hegel now haha).
