Description I have started moving into lesser known jazz territory. This is Grachan Moncur III, pretty much the only leading trombonist of the avant-garde/free-jazz era, who straddled that with more linear bop styles into something completely his own. He continues to record to this day, but his most famous records were 2 produced in the early 60s for the Blue Note label that featured him leading outfits with folks like Bobby Hutcherson, Lee Morgan, Jackie McLean, Herbie Hancock and Tony Williams among others. Highly idosyncratic, those two albums, Evolution and Some Other Stuff are some of my favorite of the period (both are also very out of print and I am happy to have found them). His playing (much like this illo) is messy and dirty..and fun.

This is the final iteration to be put up on DA. Any others will end up on zeruch>>net (once I get my DNS issues squared away.)

pencil, acrylic/pearlescent ink, gouache + digital

Fantastic. Grachan III is painfully underated and the fact he's unnoticed in the jazz world still boggles me. I love the stance taken and the angle. The colouring is extremely vibrant and brings the piece to life. Love it to bits.

Good colour combination, i really like your style and your attentiveness to reflecting light in this portrait.

i like this one the most because of the contrast in turquoise and the orange.. it is more pleasing than the other combinations x

Very nice picture. You have some other good stuff in your gallery too but this is the one that really jumped out at me. Good work.

Haha whoa this one's cool!

I love the visual of his instrument as a circle, I once took a photo of my dad playing a didgeridoo that has a similar sort of effect and when I edited it and simplified it in Photoshop, it reminded me of your 'Ouroborous' series.

I love that you can only see one of his eyes. The circle becomes almost like a big, bulging eye.
It really does weird things to the brain! So cool!

well in this series of images this is by far my favourite, i really like the way the trombone looks, it looks very natural while still being graphic. and i speak from some experience seeing as i used to play it

This is actually the only one I like so far that you've submitted of Grachan . . . his face seemed too abstract in the others, but in this, the contrast of colors works really well. I like how bright the trombone is.
