Description
well, I've been listening to a lot of soul music the past few days, and one of my favorites is Terence Trent D'Arby, who on a good day can invoke Prince, James Brown, Al Green and Sam Cooke...all at the same time. I personally think albums like "Symphony or Damn" and "Vibrator" should be in everyones cd collection...this is from an early photo of him (late 80s) that I found in my large collection of random stuff.pencil, pen+ink, pigma brush pen, pigma micron, acrylic ink, goache on 96-pound bristol, digital

Awesome work. I thought I was the only one that still loved TTD. Hey didn't he change his name? I was hoping to find his new album but I wasn't sure what his name was now.
Your ink work is wonderful. I must fav. this.

nope. i still know a couple of folks who still love TTD. His new name is Sananda Maitreya and he's living and recording in Italy these days, but the newest album is still under the TTD name and is called "Wildcard!"
His website has samples and full .mp3s of demos and b-sides for free. the boy is seriously still badass...hasn't lost a touch of soul.

I always liked TTD. (Thanks to PapaFox, who got me into pretty much everything I like from the 80s/early 90s.)
This is great. The colour is beautiful, and matches him quite nicely.
It seems a bit different from your other drawings. The fragmented look of his face is something I don't remember seeing you do before. I like it though.

awesome tones, style, and composition as always. you always pic great shots to use. this one looks slightly different to me, in that you sort of outlined some of the shading in his face, and i think that makes for a rad effect. nice work...

OMG!!! i used to listen to his stuff when i was little (7-13 or so). every so often i remember his music and think that i need to go find a cd of his, but then i always forget. not this time. i'm going to go find his music and listen to it!!! he is such a pretty boy. good to hear that he is still doing music.
anyway, about the picture. i dig the vaguely geometric shapes you used on the chin and the bridge of the nose. in a way, they kind of mirror the marks you used for the braids. lovely, lovely!!!
you know, i think i'm going to be smart, and fav this, so it will remind me to find his music. that and it's just a great pic!!

he also has a bunch of outtakes/demos on mp3 at his own site (just do a google search for Terence Trent D'arby or Sananda Maitreya)

I love how you did the hair and the shadows in this. The darkness of the piece is great--it shows off the few colors you do use.

That is just breathtaking, I love the lines around the eyes, they add a lot of depth to the work and the expression on the man's face. The juicy brushwork is quite delicious.

he just released another album (import only) and lives in italy. after his last album got no support from his record label, he nearly gave up on music altogether, but decided instead to take regional fame (he is very popular in southern Europe and Asia) instead of fighting for global superstardom. i think he changed his name a la Prince for a while too...
